Hello awesome Fixya Experts! How do I disable the tones/alerts for my Whirlpool freezer (model WZF79R18DM00)?

My Whirlpool freezer (model WZF79R18DM00) often chimes when the compressor stops running (but seemingly not every time). It's loud, and at night is very annoying. The user manual refers only to an "over temperature alert" and a "door ajar alarm." There is no mention of a jingly tone at the end of a compressor cycle. I'd love to find out how to disable the chimes, or even where the speaker is so I can disconnect it if there's no way to stop the chimes from jingling at the end of the cooling cycle. Thank you so much for your help!

It may very well be the control board being inadvertently affected by noise it's picking up on the wires feeding the rather distant alarm piezo (which on my WZF79R20DW upright freezer happens to be located at the bottom right rear of the chassis behind its cardboard shield). You need to find Technical Service Pointer W10854827 which lightly describes this, and then install W10861568 (which currently supercedes W10846247).

After many months of bewilderment, THIS WORKS! Who would have guessed that these wires, running along side many other wires within the freezer's interior would create such a problem (and I'm an electrical engineer). The tune will be the same tune that you can recreate by manually turning off then on its cooling function via the interior "Temp Setting, Cooling ON/OFF" button for 3 seconds. Yes it does seem to coincide with the end of a compressor cycle, but that is only because any off/on cooling command to the control board begins with the compressor turning off for some minutes (which is a normal programmed-in period to protect its compressor).

You will notice that if you unplugged and plugged back in the freezer, it will produce a different tune. Don't confuse your problem with that and think that you have a mains power problem. As mentioned above, if the tune is the same tune that you hear by manually turning off then on its cooling function, that's the noise on the wires causing the control board to think you want it to turn cooling off then on again. It's a darn good thing that it at least defaults to turning the cooling back on!!!

There shouldn't be any 'jingly tone' at the end of every compressor cycle. You could be hearing something else making a sound after the compressor stops.

The battery was the problem in ours. It was doing the same thing. We went through a whole bunch of stuff trying to figure it out too since we bought it as a floor model only two weeks ago. It's just a 9 volt battery.

you have a refrigeration issue partner let her go 16 yrs. is good service you can replace it for 3 to 5 hundred the repair will be that IF you can find someone with the r-12. don't go for a top it off and go deal the food you lose is to expensive for that to be economical.

SOURCE: Temp Alarm going off, when freezer seems to be cooling fine.

You need to check the temp in the freezer to make sure it's down to around 10 degrees. The alarm will go off much above that.

SOURCE: Frigidiare upright freezer has just stopped cooling

I was hoping it would be something like a cracked door seal, or a faulty thermostat, etc., but after reading the rest of your info, I've concluded the likely cause is a slow leak in the refridgerant line(s). I've seen many of these fairly new upright freezers with this problem.

Finding the leak is easy for a service tech to find, but the cost of the service tech isn't cheap and unfortunately, the repair cost will probably exceed the cost of a new freezer, but you can try to call a repair tech and see if they can give you a rough estimate over the phone or if they think it's worth fixing, etc.

My advice is to replace it. The cost of food you've lost has probably exceeded the price of a new freezer - and you've had this happen twice now. These days it seems that some appliances are being designed and built as "throw aways" due to the high repair cost.

Wished I had some better news for you, but unless you've got all the specialty tools; (charging gauges, vaccum pump, Freon, etc.) needed to do the repair yourself, along with the technical knowledge, it's likely not worth having the repair service contracted. Best Regards.

Whirlpool upright freezer is working fine but an alarm is sounding intermittently. It sounds different than the high temperature alarm. Can't find codes. What does it mean?

If your Whirlpool upright freezer is working fine but an intermittent alarm is sounding that is different from the high temperature alarm, it could indicate an issue with the door or the door switch. The alarm is designed to alert you if the door has been left open for an extended period or if the door switch is malfunctioning. Check the door seal to ensure it is tight and the door is closing properly. You can also try cleaning the door switch to see if that resolves the issue. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to contact a professional for further assistance.

My hotpoint ff187e fridge/freezer keeps bleeping and flashing how can i fix this? it is only 18 months old.

Turn the second knob at the top to off (freezer knob) turn the fridge freezer off. Then turn it back on. That may sort it. Or you may need to totally defrost the machine as there could be some ice blocking some vents. May need to remove the back panel of the freezer for this (inside).
