You need to go back to the seller and tell them the product is not fit for purpose. If they don't fix the problem, then go to Citizens Advice Bureau. They will be able to tell you what you need to do. Hopefully you have the receipt, or if you paid by Credit Card, then contact your Credit Card company and tell them of the problem. They will be able to help you. I always advise people to buy products using a Credit Card. That way, you have additional protection. As long as you pay the Credit Card bill in full, as soon as it arrives.
When you pay for things in cash this is the sort of thing that can happen - you are left at the mercy and good will of the vendor. If he does not give a rat's rear end about you, then you are stuck.
Always use credit cards since you are not paying until you get the bill and is some cases if you time it right you have almost 2 months to pay. If something goes wrong, you go back and insist on replacement lest you return the item and get a credit. And if he does not give you a credit, the credit card company will take their money back when you do not pay them. Just keep good records.

Prepaid cards are for anyone who would
rather avoid opening a bank account or risking to get in debt. Therefore they
are very appealing for students, for example, who are too young to have
established a credit history; or for working immigrants, who can this way
easily send money back to their families.
While it is not advisable to give out you credit card info to just anyone. But these charge can be disputed and ask for a new card which will have a new experation date which is needed to process a payment.
