Question about Sanyo DWM400 DVD Player
Disk light, play light and power button are all on but player won't turn on or respond to any buttons being pushed. I tried unplugging and also on another tv. Any suggestions?
The problem I found with a unit I just got was that there is a capacitor next to a B1117 voltage regulator, I also though that
the problem was that this component was overheating but the
solution was to simply replace a 16V 100uF capacitor with a
bigger one, in my case a 16V 470uF.
Now my DWM-400 is working great.
If for obvious reasons you can't perform the replacement, just
take your unit to a repair shop and tell them to look for that capacitor.
tip: there are three B1117's, the one in question is the hottest one.

I have a similar problem with the Sanyo DWM-400. I also cannot turn power off. Even when I unplug it and then again plug in the power cord it will come back on after several minutes all by its self. It will then work okay for a few minutes and will play a DVD and will suddenly quit showing a picture. It seems that something is overheating shortly after turning it on. After letting it sit and cool down for a while it will play again but only for few minutes. Although I have had this player since April 2004 it has rarely been used. I estimate it only been used no more than 10 hours total. With so many buyers having this problem Sanyo should issue a recall on this model.
