Can't get internet connection

I have a cisco 24 port switch which is conncted to a cable modem. I also have a aple Airport connected to one of the terminals. When i wire my PC to the airport i get connection to the internet but, if i connect the pc directly to the switch, i can not get internet connection from none of the cisco ports. what seems to be the problem? Thanks

The Airport works fine when connected to the cisco 12 port switch(internet connection through the switch), now, if i connect the PC (win. xp) to the Airport, it works fine, but if i connect PC to the switch directly when Airport is also connected to the switch, i would't get internet connection. If i connect the cable modem to the Airport directly and then connect the switch to the Airport the switch works fine. It appears that somehow the airport prevents the switch ports from sending signels out if it is connected to the switch along with other divices.

    .here is wahat goes on,

1)Modem to switch to airprt, switch ports don't work

2)Modem to Airport to switch, switch ports work

What kind of PC and operating system are you using? Windows XP?? Does the PC connect to the Internet if you connect it directly to the cable modem? Does it work okay if you connect it to the same port on the switch as the Airport is connected to now?

Switch does not act as translator, so internet does not work,.the private and public IP should be NAT

Check the following

If your link light on the swich port turn green when you connect the Airport to the switch then the connectivity is okey. if not then try connecting the airport with a crossover cable.

If the link is on, then I need the following information. please draw the connectivity and upload and the switch configuration.

I forgot a password and i cant access a catalyst 2960 24-port 10/10

You can only reset password this way:
1.
Attach a terminal or PC with terminal emulation (for example, Hyper Terminal) to the console port of the switch.
Use the following terminal settings:
  • Bits per second (baud): 9600
  • Data bits: 8
  • Parity: None
  • Stop bits: 1
  • Flow Control: Xon/Xoff
2.Unplug the power cable.
3. Hold down the mode button located on the left side of the front panel, while you reconnect the power cable to the switch
4. Release the Mode button when the SYST LED blinks amber and then turns solid green. When you release the Mode button, the SYST LED blinks green.
5. switch: flash_init
6. switch: load_helper
7. switch: dir flash:
8. switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old
Rename config.text to config.old. In that file the password is stored.
9. switch: boot
10. Enter "n" at the prompt to abort the initial configuration dialog
11. Type en to enable
12. Switch#rename flash:config.old flash:config.text
13. Switch#copy flash:config.text system:running-config
14. Overwrite the current passwords:
conf term
enable secret <new pass>
enable password <new pass>
line vty 0 15
password <new pass>
login
line con 0
password <new pass>

15. write memory
16. copy run start

Most newer switches have auto detect MDI / MDI-X ports, but try a cross-over cable since this model is end of life.

How do I connect cable modem to cisco 3560 switch and configure it?

The cable modem will need to go through a router because it needs a NAT and PAT translation table, connecting the cable modem direct would lose the ability to get to the internet.

It is possible to use cisco switches in networking with out a router...from modem to switch to PC

Yes, in order to do this you would simply have to create a Layer 3 switch, if you are unfamiliar how to do this, click here

Note* if you are not Cisco certified, not experienced in configuring switches and routers from within the operating system, or do not have the necessary equipment or software, it is not recommended you attempt this, as it may cause permanent damage to your switch if the improper commands are entered and configured on the switch.

If you are unsure or do not feel comfortable creating a Layer 3 switch, have someone you know who is Cisco certified or a computer repair shop configure this for you.

Just got a new router (motorola) and airport will

Check your connections:

DSL-modem to telephone-jack (or cable-modem to cable-jack).

Ethernet cable from DSL-modem (or from cable-modem) to WAN port on your router.

Ethernet cable from LAN port on router to WAN port on your Airport.

Cut the power to the Airport, and then plug it back in, so that it restarts.

3550 Cisco switch

It does not have to be port 24 to port 24 - You just need to make sure that whatever port you use is configured the same way as port 24 - Example: Log into switch #2 and set port 23 with the same attributes as port 24. Also log into you new switch and make sure port 23 (or 24) is configured the same as those on switch #2. You can the cleanly go from switch #1 - port 24 to switch #2 - port 23 AND switch #2 port 24 to switch #3 port 23 - If you also configure switch #3 port 24 like the others you'll be ready for any additional expansion

Help me plz

cisco routers make use of an IOS software for configurations.

you have to connect the router to a computer system through an hyper terminal program in order to access the router command interface, there is no way you will be able to configure this router without having cisco configurations knowledge.

the steps could be complex/complecated for a novice.but all the same,

after running the hyper terminal program on your computer to connect the router(start-accessories-communication-hyper terminal) make sure you use cisco serial cable or a cat5e roll over cable.

press the enter key once and type 'enable' then press enter,

configure terminal,to take you to a global configuration mode.

i will advice that you should contact a cisco person in your area for help

Hi. I use the 9 pin port with a Cisco rollover cable to access the console port of routers and switches. Using a terminal emulation program such as HyperTerminal. It allows me to configure the routers and switches. I believe that it can also be used to connect to old modems. I hope this helps, Nelson McKinnon.

Need to hook up Belkin G wireless router to Motorola SB5120

Plug your cable line into your modem, make sure it's tight, but don't use a tool. Next plug the ethernet line from the modem to your PC ethernet port. Then plug in your power to the modem. Allow your modem to sync. Don't use the USB line at all. Do not even hook it up unless your computer doesn't have a working ethernet line. Don't run the disk either, it will only install the modem driver that is only used if you use USB.

If you have issues connecting after that, you may have to go into your ethernet adapter settings and make sure that it is using DHCP. DSL usually uses a different setting (PPP I think) and you will not be able to connect.

By the way, excellent choice in modems.
