Re: can't get internet connection

Switch does not act as translator, so internet does not work,.the private and public IP should be NAT

Re: can't get internet connection

Check the following

If your link light on the swich port turn green when you connect the Airport to the switch then the connectivity is okey. if not then try connecting the airport with a crossover cable.

If the link is on, then I need the following information. please draw the connectivity and upload and the switch configuration.

How do I connect cable modem to cisco 3560 switch and configure it?

The cable modem will need to go through a router because it needs a NAT and PAT translation table, connecting the cable modem direct would lose the ability to get to the internet.

Cisco SF100 and Bell DSL modem on port 24. Shows green light, but cannot access internet. Bell says not their problem.

Switches can only communicate with devices that are on the same subnet. Routers can route traffic to other subnets. You need a router to be able to forward traffic to the next hop on it's way to the Internet.

I would need the model number from your Bell DSL modem to see what it is capable of. But most ISP modems will have 2 IP addresses. One public, one private address. The modem's usually do some sort of Network Address Translation (NAT) and routing for the users. The essential piece you may be missing is that every device plugged into the SF100 switch MUST be on the same IP subnet as the private IP address of the DSL modem. On top of that, your gateways (next-hop) must be configured correctly.

Let me know the model and I should be able to help out.

Hi, Im using Linksys SR224 24 ports as my main switch. I got a poor internet connection, this problem occurs few weeks ago. I tried to connect my modem through a LAN cable directly to my server and...

Try a brand-new cable between the modem and the "uplink" port on the router.
Try a brand-new cable from one of the "LAN" ports to your computer, and test to see that you get a good connection.

Which port do i plug in the ethernet cord from the modem. Zonet ZFS3008P and does any one have owner manual

It is basically a switch so if you are planning to connect more than one computer using this switch than you need to connect a router in between modem and switch

modem -- > router -- > switch -- > computer

from your modem an ethernet cable will connect into an internet port on the router and than from LAN port of a router cable will connect into any port on your switch.

Let me know in case if you need more help :)

How to connect netgear fs108 to cable modem

leeb..... switches cannot be connected to the Cable modem.... because NAT will not be enabled in cable there wont be any DHCP server present in the cable modem....
Nat will be enabled only in DSL modem like AT&T verizon etc....So DHCP server will be present inside DSL modem...that is the reason why switches can be connected only to the DSL modem....
With NAT enabled modem, switch will work as a switch.... With NAT disabled modem, switch will work as a hub.... This is the difference....
Any doubts further ? please clarify with me.... I am ready to help you....

Setting up a small network using DSL and a DLink router

1.) The setup needs changing
2.) first off the dss-24 is a network switch not a router
3.) all of your pc equipment should be pluged into that device.
4.) chose one port as an uplink to your att modem
I think your problem is that the new modem is only giving out one ip address. So what ever first pc is turned on that is the one that grabs the address.
5.) you will most likly need a router to take the one ip address assigned via att then dole out additional ones. Remember the dss-24 is not a router. It simply connects everyone together. Each device still needs an ip address given from somewhere. Your old cable modem probibly did that but your new att dsl most likly does not.hence the new router will do that.....
to set it up do the following
2.) Find out the ip setup needed for your dsl service
A.) gateway ip
B.) primary & secondary dns server ip`s
C.) subnet mask
3.) get into the setup of your new router and then plugg in
all of these values using a fixed if address in the router
4.) connect routers wan port to one of the modems port. u may have to use a cross cable or straight look at the link lites to find out if they are talking to each other
5.) make sure that the routers lan side is setup for DHCP
6.) connect one lan port off the router to an uplink
of the dss-24. Then reboot everything
7.) viola it should all work internet on evey machine and file sharring.
