Question about Mitsubishi Televison & Video

Confirming that the lamp itself is actually bad on my misubishi DLP TV

Model # WD73733. When I turn the tv on you hear a noise that sounds like an electrical spark trying to ignite, and the fan that cools the lamp coming on. It try's to cycle 3 times before cutting off, and the LAMP light next to the status and power light on front panel stays on. I turned off the lights, and turned power on again, and when it is trying to ignite you can see the light from the lamp flickering when its making that igniting sound through the air vents in the TV on the back side by the lamp. I removed the lamp cartridge and looked at it. There is no obvious blown bulb signs, but I AM NOT A TV REPAIR MAN, but know that if it is indeed the lamp I can change it in 2 mins. I DO HAVE SOUND, and this happen suddenly, NO WARNING. Please help me confirm if you can.

It sounds like the ballast that powers your lamp is bad. What are the indicator lights on the front of the tv doing?

I had the same problem...I took the back panel off the tv and took a small desk fan and mounted it so it would keep the bulb extra cool...IT WORKED! I left it like this for about a week. It shut off only twice after about 4 hours of on time. I then disconected the small white ceramic sensor on the back side of the light. (there is a plug conecting it, just follow the wire to it) It has been about 3 weeks now and I have not had the tv shut off yet. (disclaimer...could start fire from over heating? try at your own risk.) If it works for you buy a new sensor.

TV made a big popping sound, and then a crackling

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php That crackling sound could be of the color wheel:The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises. But if you don't hear any strange noises,tv is around 6000 hrs,2-4 yrs it could be time to replace the lamp. The lamp you need is BP9601073A you can find original here:http://www.discount-merchant.com/Samsung-BP96-01073A-lamp-p/samsung-bp96-01073a-lamp-oem.htm?Click=48173 .Have a blessed one!

Samsung dlp hls6186w, picture has darkened, could it be the lamp or is it the colour wheel??... tv is making sounds...I thought it was the fan, the fan looks okay??? It also shuts down once and a while...

The lamp is the only thing that will cause the picture to go darker. According to the model you have the lamp part number is BP96-01472A. The noise you hear could possibly be the color wheel itself. The way to tell is when you turn off the TV the lamp stays on for about 10 seconds longer. Once the lamp shuts off if that noise goes away then it is a bad color wheel. Any noises past that would be a fan. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

Just replaced the lamp inside of a misubishi dlp wd-52525 the tv will turn on then turn off after a couple of minutes. The tv has sound but no picture

1) make sure the lamp door is properly aligned

2) listen to hear the sound of the ballast board trying to ignite the lamp. It will buzz then pause then buzz, etc its a soft noise, so listen closely.

3) watch for the green LED on the TV's front panel. If it blinks continously, there's a major problem with capacitors on several circuit boards requiring an expensive and time consuming repair.

Sounds like the colorwheel (used in DLP projection sets with a single DLP panel) is going bad, either the wheel itself or the bearings on the motor driving the wheel are starting to fail. I would recommend getting a professional to service the TV set.
