Amana PTH153G50A -37 degrees oat-1st stage heat (Reversing) will work fine several times, then next time 2nd stage heat (strip) will come on instead. This seems to happen randomly.

This happens randomly. Stat is Amana wireless set at 68 and left alone. Compressor makes good heat. Sounds good. Both coils CLEAN. 1st stage Works perfectly several cycles then for no reason 2nd stage only then back again no apparent pattern

I'm leaning 2 directions, one is that your tstat is sensing your heatpump can not keep up with the load. Therefore bringing on heat strips or two, you have a cycles per hour limit set for compressor heating and your machine is cycling too often.

when its running how hot are the sides the starting amps are too high and 1.5 running amps ain't bad now the the cut in cut out are too high if you look on the dial that the mid point settings that's where you should have it not on 1 1 is hot set it on the straight line that's where you should do all your testing colder settings go up not down you could be overheating the compressor by making it come on too quick the freezer should be about -10 or so do you see any gaps in the gasket

SOURCE: Grip pen not responding

You could try recalibrating the tablet.  Open the tablet control panel, then click "About." Then hold Control while clicking "Diagnose..." and on the next screen -- the Diagnostics window -- you'll see a new button labled "Recalibrate..." Clicking that might do the trick.

Good luck.

SOURCE: Heat pump blows heat half the time and cold half the time

It sounds like it is just going into the defrost cycle. Go outside and see if it is iced up. If it is, it reverses itself to melt the ice. Heat strips should come on if unit has them

We have 2 furnaces in our house, both on the braeburn 3200 model thermostats.

If you have a dual fuel system - gas/heat pump the heat pump should lock out at around 41 degrees depending on what the outside lockout sensor is set at. It may be that both the heat pump and furnace could be running at the same time if the outside lockout isn't working or there could be a problem with the thermostat. Best bet would be to have a service tech check it out. However if you want to check it out here are the terminals Terminations: R,Y1,Y2,W2,E,G,O,B,L,C. W2, E and B are the heating terminals for 2nd stage heat and emergency heat. First stage heat, compressor Y1 with B (reversing valve on heat pump) energized together. 2nd stage W2 energized for gas or electric heat . No power to Y1 and B when W2 is energized if gas. E can be energized with Y1 and B if you have electric heat or if you switch over to emergency heat, E will be energized.

My Mistral MSS25 has stopped blowing hot air, it's only 6 degrees and it's friday afternoon before a long weekend! Is there anything I can do to fix it before someone can come out here next week to lo

No heat pump will put out much, if any at 6 degrees.
A heat pump is an air conditioner that reverses cycle via a reversing valve that re directs the refrigerant flow in the unit, in ac mode,
heat from indoors is rejected outdoors in the heat mode the heat from outdoors is rejected indoors.
The system does this by evaporating and condensing refrigerant.
For the refrigerant to be "boiled" or "change state" from a liquid to a vapor a temperature differential must exist, meaning the heat from the outdoor air must "boil" the liquid refrigerant.
For this to be possible the liquid refrigerant must be colder than the 6 degrees ambient or it will not boil anything.
For a refrigerant used for AC to be that cold the pressure will be in a vacuum for most refrigerants temperature pressure relationship.
Heat pumps below 40 degrees ambient outdoor temperature are
not effective, at this temperature outside drops a degree lower it further degrades the heat output .Power companies that finance Heat pumps typically will install an outdoor thermostat to prohibit the 2nd stage or electric heat strips from coming on until it is 40 or below outdoors, at a certain point well before 6 degrees a heat pump should be ran on the emergency heat mode which is the heat strips and the fan. Since 1500 Watt electric heaters are available at Wal-Mart for $20 the best alternative in this situation would be to buy a few of them.

Air and strips work but heat won't

Check that the reversing valve is not stuck. TAP on it with the plastic end of a screw driver while the system is calling for 1st stage heat. Check low voltage wiring at outdoor unit from t-stat.

I have a intertherm when it cold do i put it on

Leave it on heat all the time. If the 1st. stage heat fails and the room temperature drops approximately 2° or 3° F then 2nd. stage or emergency heat will kick in. If you have a heat pump when it goes into defrost it will kick in the 2nd. stage heat.
2nd. stage heat will maintain at 2° or 3° lower than your thermostat setting.
