Verify if your wireless option on the router is enabled.
Also when you setting the wireless on the router, be sure that channel is not on automatic. Specify a channel number. After that try to connect again to wireless

try disabling encryption on the wireless and see if you can connect then. Then if possible change to string WPA encryption and make sure you enter the passphrase correctly when you try to connect. If you can connect via ethernet, an encryption mismatch is likely to be your problem

Hi,

Can you tell me where does is reflects that the driver is outdated?

Also what is the NIC you are using for connecting to internet? Is it Wireless or Wired Network? Please provide the full name as under Device Manager.

And lastly, what is the laptop model you are running?

Let me know and I should be able to help you in fixing the issue.

I tried to connect my vaio to wifi it is showing limited axcess what should i do

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.

I had to reinstall my XP pro os on my HP compaq nc6230. Prior to the re-install i was connection via wireless. Now everyting works fine except I cant connect via wireless. It see all available wireless...

Try power cycling your router while your computer is connected via wireless (even with limited or no connectivity) . Unplug the router for 15 seconds and then plug it in again. Hopefully the router will assign your computer a new IP address.

Connection to laptop

Most printers are connected to laptops via the USB ports. If the printer is supposed to be wireless, then you may have to connect the laptop via the USB port so you can activate the wireless port.

Lots of people have access to my internet connection in the place i live how can i lock it so they cant use it

setup WEP Security Access....

LINKSYS ROUTER:

access router
Click on Wireless
Set/CHANGE SSID (save)

click on Wireless Security
Change Disabled to WEP
choose 64 bit or 128 bit
create PASS PHRASE - any common word, about 8 characters long REMEMBER THIS
Click Generate

this will deliver a series of KEYs. Write (1) KEY down and bring it to your known wireless devices (laptops, desktops, etc).

Save & power cycle all devices connected (this will reset all wired connections as well)

go over to your wireless devices, re-identify connection. you will need the KEY. Carefully enter in all letters and confirm. save these settings.

This should cure your problem. and never run a nekid wireless system unless you want others to access.

Added solution:

in Basic Setup, around the DCHP Setup you can also limit the number of users. My calculations are normally - Number of Wired Connections + Number of Laptops +1 for emergency service. This will allow X+1 connections, therefor limiting the number of potiential users to be able to grab an IP Address.

Best of luck!

Wireless connection

First I will confirm what you've posted.

Before going to your friends house you used to connect the laptop up via the network cable. Since youve tried your laptop on your friends wireless it no longer allows you to surf the web via the wireless nore the wired connection?

To me it sounds like a possible mis-configuration between your laptop and your linksys router. Depending on what operating system you are using you need to get into your network connection settings (usually in control panel) and either set the TCP/IP to automatically obtain ip address or set it correctly.

If you have never had to configure this in the past ensure that obtain automatically is set.

I have recently aquired a router and a Wireless PCI Card. Although I am automatically on the internet when I boot up my Computer,I keep getting a message on screen that I have limited or no conectivity....

the limited connectivity means that your router is not connected wirelessly probably because you have not entered the correct passkey, or it's still giving your lan RJ45 network cable the ip address and this is why you are still connected to the net.

If you are on a Netgear modem/router as i suppose you are if it's from sky, you should connect the RJ11 phone line cable into the router leading to a broadband filter, then connect the filter to your phone socket.

There should be no wires between your pc and the router, so take out the wire that is connected to the router (RJ45), which you should have used to set the router up coming from your onboard wired network card.

You will now be connected only via wireless connection, right click on the wireless network icon in your taskbar, click show all connections and then click on your SKY****, whatever it is and then you will need to enter the WPA-PSK security passkey which is with your Sky paperwork or on the router itself.
