D=S+20 (Dad is 20 years older than Son)
D+10 = 2xS (In ten years Dad will be twice Son's current age)
therefore (by substitution):
S+20+10 = 2xS
S+30 = 2S
2S = S+30
2S-S = 30 (subtract S from both sides) S = 30 (Son's current age) *answer*
D = S+20
D = 30+20 D = 50 (Dad's current age) *answer*
In ten years, Dad will be 60, which is twice Son's current age of 30.
If you have time to fix it yourself, you may want to try that. Ultimately, I needed the help of my 17 year old son to replace the shifting mechanism. The part cost about $75 including tax. SAME PROBLEM; the spring that SSN-MM3 talks about was missing/broken. To remove the shifter knob, pull it straight up. All the plastic pieces around the shifter are easily removed by pulling and they snap back in just as easy.
Im a tech for hobart and have seen old mixers but not that old.Hobart wont have parts but you could goto an electrical supply place,take the switch and ask them for something universal.
What part of the country?
How many square feet in the house?
Insulation?
Single pane glass?
Many factors should be considered by a professional.
However if the old unit worked OK, a new 80% 70,000 unit will most likeley replace a 24 year old 60-70% 75,000 unit.
