Leapster2 AC Adapter

I have a Leapster2 for my son, as well as an A/C adapter. Do i need to have batteries installed for the A/C adapter to work, or do i remove them? there's no charging light/indicator.

the ac adapter doesnt charge the batterys only runs it on mains you dont have to remove them but you should, they leak if not used or been in for a long time corrodes the pins and renders anything allmost useless to run on batterys when you put them back in
