Question about Williams 2509612 Ceramic Mid-Size Heater
I'm wondering if it has something to do with the electric ignition. We've only had the heater a few months and it just stopped working this weekend. With our previous heater we were able to have heat even of the electricity went out.
Thanks for your help, Janice
Williams heaters have a manual reset for the spill safety switch. If the heater is not venting properly it will trip this switch and shut off main burner function. The switch is on the left side of the cover inside the small vent. You can use a screwdriver to push the button back in. If the heater then works you will need to get the vent inspected to make sure it is connected properly and there is no blockage.

The heater obviously uses a standing pilot. in the pilot flame is a copper tube. this is a millivolt generator and is used to sense a lit pilot. it is a small dc generator that is connected to the pilot light valve. its function is to create a small voltage to energize a small electromagnet inside the main valve/pilot valve. when there is sufficient voltage present, it pulls in a magnet connected to a very small valve in the pilot gas line. this keeps the pilot valve open. when the flame sensor malfunctions you will get a pilot flame but when you release the button the flame goes out. replace the flame sensor and you should be back in business.
