SOURCE: Dyson DC07 burning smell.
sounds like it is on the way out this may be because 1, you need to clean the filter cos when its dirty it stop air from going around the motor witch makes it get hot and overheat 2, also if you allow the bin to get to full this will also stop the motor from geting air to it so a good clean on your filter and bin will allow air to the motor then no overheating should accur
SOURCE: My dyson dc14 has a strong burning smell
A DC 14 has two belts - one that connects the motor ourput to the clutch mechanism (the dial that lets you turn off the brush rotation completely is part of the clutch mechanism), and another that connects the clutch to the brush bar.
Unfortuneatley, the one that connects the motor to the clutch is hidden under a plastic cover so is very difficult to check.
With the machine running, and NOT in the upright position (i.e. as if you were vacuuming a floor), make sure the brush bar is actually rotating. If it isnt, you need to check both belts and the clutch. Due to the cover being held by three "Torx" screws, one of which is very difficult to get at, this isnt easy.
If the brush bar is rotating, then the burning is an indication the motor is about to fail. Motor replacement is possible depending how good your DIY skills are, and again you'll need "Torx" drivers to dismantle it. Website www.dysonmedic.com has some very good info.

Unfortunately your motor had burnt up..most times this is due to not cleaning or replacing the filters...the filters get dirty and the motor gets no airflow to cool it....very common on dyson vacs

SOURCE: Dyson DC 25 Dyson Ball animal. The bottom brush
Two things you can do.
1- Remove the brush as if you were going to change the drive belt for it.
Clean the brush as best you can and spray some WD40 on the hard rubber/plastic
pieces at both ends of the brush. Rotate the pieces to work the WD40 into the space
between the pieces and the brush axle.
2- If you have one available, as long as the brush is off, change the belt.
This should get your unit back in operation.
If you find this solution helpful, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up from you.
Thank you.
