    Hi Ron,

When I turn the computer on, the HD powers up, you get one beep, the screen flashes gray only and continues in that state until you power it down. The Motherboard and screen have been change. A friend had the items on hand and loaned them to me. If there is any other information that I can supply, PLEASE let me know. I really appreciate you help on this matter.

    Sincerely,

    CCD

    Hi Ron,

I fired the computer up today and found that as it was booting there was a message, but it looked as if the sync on the monitor was missing because it was unlock. I have a friend who has parts that I used so far. I replaced the motherboard, ram, LCD, and hard drive. I'm at a lost!!! The only thing that I haven't changed is the power supply. I disconnected modem, PCMCIA board, DVD drive, TV card. Can't think of anything else. Any ideas???
    Sincerely,

Good afternoon, cckd!
Could you please provide me with a bit more information to work with? When it flashes, what exactly is happening and what color are the flashes? Does it flash a whole screen or just partially? Are there any sounds, like the HDD starting to run or the CD drive powering up? Are any leds coming on, or flashing?
I'm sure that I can help, but will need some more specifics.
Thanks, and have an excellent day!
Ron

Ouch! Sounds like you have a real gremlin in there!
OK, as I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) You experienced a set of symptoms, replaced the motherboard and LCD assembly and ended up with exactly the same symptoms.

If that's the case, then we need to look at what's left. The memory could be bad, and I'd definitely try that. About the only thing left to do would be to disconnect everything that is connected to the motherboard. HHD, CD reader, wireless card, PMCCIA card(s), touch pad, etc. If, after doing this, if it comes back up (to some degree) you have confirmed that one of these devices is causing the problem. Then you simply start plugging things in one at a time until you get the failure again.

I'm really interested in getting this one resolved as I've not run into this before. Always up for a learning experience! ;o)

Will continue to think on this while awaiting you response.
    Ron-

I am going to install 2 1gb ddr pc2700 in my sony PCV-V100G. After installing it do i have to do any thing after start computer. Or do i need reboot disc.

Just allow the BIOS to accept the new RAMS during the POST. If successful, a message will appear stating there has been a change in memory and it will say hit "F(x)" key to continue.

Fan and power light work but no monitor.

Check your RaM card reseat or clean it with soft eraser only its edge connector both side. If this unit is a laptop then disconnect first the battery and disconnect any other power source to it, before you do cleaning or reseating of the card. This is a memory fault if not try to install spare good RAM.
