Pt-51hx41e panasonic tv power problem

does the power light blink? If so thats an error code let me know the number of blinks and I will assist you with the issue.

I suggest you take it out or just disconnect only one leg and measure the resistance by a multimeter/AVO-meter. If you test it in-circuit you might not get the actual resistance because some other component might interfere with the measuring process! By the way just to mention, there are expensive instruments that are capable of measuring the resistance in-circuit (you could use it if you have one)!

TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE RESISTOR; IF YOU SEE 2.2 PRINTED ON IT ----IT IS 2.2 OHM 1 WATT.

MOST OF THESE ARE PROTECTION IN CASE ONE OF THE TWO CHIPS SHORTS.

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board (main Board) would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

check the resisters or send the board in to ptscorp.com
if you find bad resisters chances are you blew the ic too

Only use the same part number when replacing convergence amps, or you will need to replace all of the power resistors with recommended values for the convergence amps subsituted.

If you haven't the technical ability to repair this set I suggest to get a tech to replace the stk392-110 convergance amp ic's. these ic's are very noticable they have the largest heat sinks in all the sets ic's. but the problem may not be the ic's alone, there may be several resistors open or open pico fuses. So if you are not technicaly inclined donot attempt this repair. it's not just the replacement of the ic's that need be done but geometry and final convergance in the service menu. please leave this to the pros.

no sundog this model has the potenthal to be a nice tv when you saw the burn't resisters that was your clue to change the stk's now that you have fixed the res problem the bad stk is telling the set to shut down replace stk,s i ALWAYS change both (buy the way in the future those are hi watt res THEY SMOKED FOR A REASON maybe you thought they were installed in the 70"s ha ha. but they smoked because the stk's one or more are bad. good luck doc
