If you plan to just use an external drive and leave it hooked up, if you reboot your computer with the drive connected via a usb or whatever cable you need, the computer should recognize it and it should be available right away. If you are using a pc, you can go to the "my computer" folder to see if it shows up, on a mac, simply look on the desktop for another harddrive icon.
You can designate where you want to store created documents during your save process. Look for the drive letter or name when you go to save your dox.

hope that makes it clearer than "mud"..
hope I didn't confuse you more...

Why does my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex, 1.5 TB, external hard drive USB 2.0 make a clicking sound and will not connect to my Satellite receiver?

Does the drive work with a computer? This is an important test to determine if the drive is bad, or if it is an interface problem. Check the satellite receiver instructions for using external USB devices. Many times, these types of devices do not have interfaces with drivers for external hard drives.

How to recove Seagate external hard drive data?

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software: http://www.icare-recovery.com/seagate-recovery/seagate-external-cannot-be-recognized.html

My external hdd has is not detecting

Seagate is a company that manufactures external hard drives.

These hard drives can be used to house large files or even to backup an entire hard drive.

When your Seagate external hard drive is not working properly, you might ready to send it into the company for repair.

Before you send it away, you can troubleshoot the problem and potentially save yourself a lot of time and grief.

Look over the power cable going from the wall outlet to the back of the Seagate hard drive. Make sure that there aren't any breaks or tears in the electrical wiring.

If there are breaks, replace the power cord.

Look over the power cable and make sure that it is plugged into the wall outlet in your home as well as plugged into the back of the hard drive.

Plug the power cable directly into the wall outlet or into a surge protector.

Do not plug the power cable into an extension cord.

Seagate Data Cable

Disconnect all of the USB devices that are plugged into your computer's USB ports except for your mouse and your keyboard.

Disconnect the Seagate external hard drive from your computer.

Unplug the power cable from the back of the Seagate external hard drive and restart your computer.

Wait until your computer has fully booted and then plug the power cable back into the hard drive.

Look over the USB data cable to make sure that there are breaks or tears in the cable.

Look over the ends of the cable where they meet the computer and the hard drive.

Make sure the pins are straight.

Replace the cable if needed.

Plug the data cable into the back of the hard drive.

Plug the data cable into your computer.

Hope this helps.

I have an external Seagate Freeagent 1.5TB drive, purchased at Costco roughly 2 yrs. ago. My two yr old knocked it about 10 inches onto a carpeted floor (which didn't seem like a big fall) but now it will...

More you try to use, you'll have less chance to recover the data. Try consult with seagate service center to fix the drive first before send it to data recovery company.

For a MAC to use an external Hard drive, the hard drive has to be formatted FAT32 file system. That is the only file system MAC sees.

Cannot power on Seagate Freeagent Desk external hard drive

Hi,

Hope this has only been used for backups, and not as a primary storage. The best way to trouble shoot something like this is to purchase a USB/SATA adapter. You will need to dissemble the device and take out the hard drive. Connect it to the USB/SATA adapter to see if the drive spins up and can be seen by the PC. This will let you know if the drive is OK and whether the fault is related to the external bay electrices or the drive itself.

Good luck, you can get the USB/SATA devices quite cheap off of eBay.

Cheers,
Ripface.
