Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

4 Answers

I was downloading some software yesterday. When I returned, my computer was on a black screen with the message disk read error press ctrl alt delete to restart. Is this just a corrupt SSD - ?

Restarting did not work, and I noticed that my SSD (OCZ Trion 100 Series 480GB) was no longer listed as a boot option in my bios. I then loaded up PartedMagic and it could not detect the SSD. On PartedMagic, it just said unknown device under disk health and would not give any other information. I decided to reinstall windows on an old HDD to I could still use my computer. I had no issues doing this, until I decided to try and connect the original SSD next to the installed HDD. The bios would still not detect the old SSD and I made sure that the HDD was the only boot option - however, windows would not load. When booting, it would stay on the Asus press alt or delete to enter the bios screen for a suspiciously long time, and then got stuck in the windows boot screen. When I unplug the computer and removed the old SSD to try and boot with just the HDD again, it would load into windows quickly with no problems. Is it possible that I downloaded some sort of virus onto the SSD?

Bull pucky.
no PC stated, no OS stated???? why?
the SDD is bad or all batteries in the PC bad.
the SDD is dead or the CMOS battery is dead.
THE SDD IS DEAD
BIOS can and will go nuts with the coin cell bad.
so do not condem HDD or SSD until coin is good
but moved the disk to PC#2 so...we know it is bad.

if the SSD tests bad on 2 PCs
its bad.
bios dead or partiting tools show it dead.
its dead.
im sure the SATA ports on both PCs are not dead.

learn this virus poster
a virus can not erase the SAtA DRIVE IDENTIFICAION FIELD DATA IN THE SSD. "Corsair C1234zyz"
ON ANY HDD DISK NOT SPINNING SURE DOES MAKE THE iDENTIFY PCI SCAN GO DEAD.

THERE IS NO DISK IN ANY SSD (TRUE not hybrids)
SSD:
So the ID is stored in firmware, that no virus can .touch.oK.. learn that.
but if the PCI scan does fail for ID the SSD is bad. super bad.

any infected HDD or SSD can be erased using free app,, called killdisk
seen here free, with links
http://www.pcdied.com/w10/HDD%20erase/erase.html

so erase the disk
if the eraser can't find it
then the data cable or power cable are bad
or the data port bad, move to sata 2,3,4 port
if still dead the SSD is toasted

    and
    Correlation does not prove causation
    learn it.
    learn test and diagnose.
    ask. (it's not hard)

one more trick of the trade ,made hard due to lack of what PC this is...sad now.
    so Ill do a desktop
    pull the line cord.
pull the SSD power and data cable
push the power button, for 30seconds and release. 10s or less most times works
see fans spin and die, bingo power is at 0volts. \
is coin cell at 2.9 to 3.3vdc, if less it is bad. and must be replaced now, OK?
    now put all that back
does SSD show up in bios,
    yes /no
    yes,good
    no? bad SSD

The SSD is OCZ Trion 100 480GB from NewEgg. Almost 3 years old.

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2019

no pc STATED OR OS, WHY DO THAT?
ok , ocz , is good drive, not old
    AND IS NOT JUNK !!!!
so here is what A bad SSD does.

1;FAILS TO SHOW UP IN BIOS ON 2 PC'S OR MORE.
2:SAME IN A SSD EXTERNAL CASE USB.
Shows up dead in diskmanager. /?
3;FAILS SMART TESTS, booted from say linux demo media.
the reason 2 PCs is simple
some have bad RTC CMOS BATTERY AND CAN NOT SCAN DRIVERS RELIABLY. SEE.?

THE 2ND PC IS THE BEST 2ND OPINION.

    LAST SOME BIOS have
the ability to disable SATA ports.
    dont allow that.
    ever see this.
    bios hdd test?
    OR THIS?http://www.pcdied.com/BIOS/bootorder1.jp...

HERE IS BIOS PCI SCANNING DRIVES (HDD/SSD)
IF THE DRIVE is missing that means the
drive is dead, and can not even tell the PC
    IT'S IDENTITY.
PCI SCANS FIND DRIVES, AND LISTS THEM ALL
    NO PC STATED AT ALL
BUT IF THE 2 SSD CABLES ARE BAD THE DRIVE WILL NOT WORK OR FAIL TO IDENTIFY.
SO..... NO PC STATED AT ALL.

ON MY HP LAP TOP TO USE THE dvd bay
for 2nd sdd (as i type) I had to enable that feature in my bios.
    port 1 is boot sdd
port 2, is now 2nd bay drive.
so testing one must know all this.
    again no PC stated.

what matters in OP first is this
I noticed that my SSD was no longer listed as a boot option in my bios.
,that means the ssd is dead

    is this a desktop PC
the only clue is 2 drives at one time.
and most folks but me do that on laptops.
    is it desktop
is the Rtc COIN CELL BATTERY 2.9VDC OR LOWER
OR OVER 7 YEARS OLD (CELL MAKERS RULES)

on any PC the RTC is first to check if things act odd.
    ok
still no PC stated out of 10,000 models
    1995 to 2018 made, vast possible.s
    my desktop is ausu,z270 prime.
love it and my battery is not dead. or weak.
    it finds any ssd made
and run now, two, m.2 fast disks
i also run m.2 to PCI-e adapters in other PCs.
bios seens them all ,battery not dead.

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2019

    and last (or first)
Do not hot swap that SDD or you will blow it up to H3LL.
i can on my nice servers here,
but not in some cheap PC
    install any destkop ssd
remove the power cable from the AC wall jack
    then push power, button
see fans spin for 1 second or so
this dischages all caps in the PC.
on laptop all batteries and AC pack
must be pulled, but not the RTC tiny coin cell.'
ok and then push button to discharge the caps inside, then play ssd swap games.

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2019

to hot swap drives one needs
    hdd/ssd certified as such
    mobo certified
    and bios cert.
then the OS must support it.

Hi Yes
You got a virus onto the SSD do not use again and for safety myself I would clean all out keep what files you need first then do a factory resit as it may still have some parts of a virus inside best be safe than sorry, had same myself long time ago, take care good luck.

SOURCE: Notebook will not boot

If I understand what your problem is...
I had the same problem, it was a caused by bad Windows XP install CD.
Call Gateway and explain the situation, you may need to have a magnifying glass handy to read the tiny engraved lettering in the center of the CD disk.
Have your 'Product Key' available.
If you have some kind of sales receipt, or other "Proof of Purchase" have it handy too.
You will need to tell them, you do not have the program installed on other computers.
They can send you another disk.
This method will only work if you have a legal copy of the program.

SOURCE: problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.

SOURCE: dell xps 600 windows booting problem

You would probably do right to reinstall Windows. The bios handed off to Windows long before the splash screen comes up. It is probably a faulty driver or corrupt registry entry. If it was me I would reload Windows

Press ctrl+alt+del to restart is just an instruction. Did you do it?
What happened? Was it read? Tell us more. Send your e-mail for
us to give you our feedback.
By the way, assuming that it did not work, Your hard disk must be
configured to your PC, by running a software driver for your new hard
disk. You can download it from the internet by running search " hard
disk driver". Just specify the brand.

Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart error

Is it a black screen right when you boot your computer? If so this could be a fatal disk error and the harddrive has crashed.

There is no easy fix other than to replace the harddrive.
