Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

Netgear wireless router installation

My nephew gave me his netgear randemax wireless router model WPN824NA, with the setup cd. i follow all directions correctly when the setup cd gets to the point of powering up the router it says lights should come on except for the wireless light. well the wireless light blinks on and off and then the setup cd says it can not find internet. they do not say what it means when the wireless light flashes on/off. i've tried resetting the router. i have comcast cable internet and also a voip router for packet 8. i've tried eliminating the voip router but still get the same result.
any help would be great, net gear won't talk to me because its past warranty.
thanks john

Re: netgear wireless router installation

Light blinking on Netgear router means that the wireless is "working". Mine did the same thing. I had reset my network to 192.168.2.x instead of the default 192.168.1.x. Since this is usually on a diferent subnet it logically is on a different network and will not connect. From your post it sounds like you know what you are doing. If the config software for the router loaded correctly then there should be an icon in your Network path that shows the router. Double clicking should let you in by default. Set the IP address to your local network and try again.

How to instal

You'll wanna check out:

To help you set up your router and get on the Internet quickly, the Resource CD contains a Smart Wizard™ Installation Assistant. The Installation Assistant walks you through the steps required to connect your router, modem, and PC(s); configure your wireless settings; and enable wireless security for your network. When you have finished, you will be Internet ready!
You can set up your wireless router using one of two methods:
• Smart Wizard Setup: The Smart Wizard Installation Assistant setup is available on your Resource CD. See "Installing Your Router Using the Smart Wizard" on page 9 to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant.
- This is the easiest option. The wizard guides you through the setup process. It automates many of the steps and verifies that the steps have been successfully completed.
- Smart Wizard requires a PC running Microsoft Windows.
• Manual Setup: If you cannot or prefer not to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant, see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13. For example, if you are connecting to a Mac, are using a Linux operating system, or are technically knowledgeable, select this option. If you choose to use this option and install your router manually, for best results, install and set up your router in this order:
Failure to follow these guidelines can result in significant performance degradation or an inability to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
NETGEAR does not recommend or support adding a NETGEAR router behind another router, or replacing a gateway with a a NETGEAR router.

I want to set up my netgear wireless router but have no intellation cd and when i type in or .net it re-directs me to netgear website. dont know were to go next

The support page for Netgear is here. Enter your model number and select the proper version (check the label on the bottom for the full model number and version). You'll find links to download the user's guide as well as lots of information about setting up your router. You really don't need an installation CD. You can do setup through your Web browser. This will be explained in detail in the information on the site.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

No Setup CD

Are you trying to set up the router ?
You can do it without the CD. You can do it manually.

First make sure that your computer is able to go online when connected directly to the modem.
Then connect the modem and computer to the router and check the settings of the router.

How to install a wireless router without cd

You can download the device drivers from NetGears own website @ you will need to select the EXACT model( version you have - this can be found on the stamp underneath the router that has all those barcodes on) and download the latest drivers for yours. by doing this it will trigger 1 of 2 responses:

1. You have the latest version, no update is needed

2. You must setup your device before updating drivers. to do this please select OK

1 - Will trigger an auto setup of the device.
2 - Will take you through the setup wizard itself

which depends on how your router was shipped. If you have brought the router 2nd hand then you can obtain a new setup disc free of charge via the same site if neither of the above work.

For future ref: PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR 'FULL' ROUTER INFO-Different models of the same router can work quite differently and you may not get a best fix without it

Best Regards

Unable to find Setup CD

Go to and click on support. Find the page for your exact model router. You have to look at the bottom of the router to get the page for your router version. Then once you are at that page, yo ucan download all of the instructions, and setup guides, and manuals. Although you won't be able to download the "CD", you can do a setup without the CD by following the instructions in the manuals. You can also do a setup by looking for "bypass setup wizard" or something like that in the manuals. They are PDFs and are searchable documents. Hope this helps you...
