Netgear wireless router installation

my nephew gave me his netgear randemax wireless router model WPN824NA, with the setup cd. i follow all directions correctly when the setup cd gets to the point of powering up the router it says lights should come on except for the wireless light. well the wireless light blinks on and off and then the setup cd says it can not find internet. they do not say what it means when the wireless light flashes on/off. i've tried resetting the router. i have comcast cable internet and also a voip router for packet 8. i've tried eliminating the voip router but still get the same result.
any help would be great, net gear won't talk to me because its past warranty.
