Re: Hotpoint HS12 Hood - Charcoal Filters

Vbab, loose charcoal isn't a problem unless it gets out of the frame that it is supposed to be in and lands on your stove top. A small amount may have gotten around whatever is supposed to hold it. No worries! Most units shove into place. Usually, that means pushing one end of the filter frame into the unit against a spring. You can then push the other end up so that it is caught by the cabinet of the unit. Moderate pressure is required.

Go to and find your instruction manual or, if not available, the GEs are nearly the same.

I believe that's the "change or clean filter" indication. Clean the aluminum filters in the dishwasher, replace the charcoal filters if non-ducted, press the fan light over 3 seconds and it should reset.

Hi. How can I tell if the charcoal filters in my Smeg cooker hood need replacing? They cost £80 so I don't want to replace them unecessarily.

Firstly operate extractor normally, hold a piece of A4 paper on the underside of fan and see how it holds it on the different speeds. Then if you can remove the charcoal filters then operate as before and compare the difference between the suction, this should tell you if it is the charcoal filters or a blockage in the pipe.

Hope this helps

We would like to replace or clean the fan filter

This is a charcoal filter and cannot be cleaned out. If your extractor is no longer working efficiently then you should replace the charcoal filter/s.

Charcoal filter for rangehood

The charcoal filter is for if you do not have the hood vent to the outside of the house. The charcoal filter does not come with the hood you need to buy it separately and It will tell you where to put in the instructions that come with it.

A charcoal filter for a Franke BEV2 60 X rangehood - are they included and we just can't work out how to find it?

Charcoal filters are normally purchased seperately. They are generally black in colour, if you shake them the charcoal granules make a rattling sound.

Neff cooker hood

the manual i have says that the charcoal filters inside need changing about every 6 months. take out the grease filters then you should be able to turn it and take them out. you may not have these if the extractor vents to the outside. the grease filters can be cleaned with a neutral detergent and then put back in. Make sure the electric is off before you do any of this. Hope this makes sense and helps!
