Samsung LE40 m8 tv used as 2nd computer monitor

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have a Samsung LE40 m8 tv used as 2nd computer monitor on a Dell Dimension 9150.
My graphics card specification supports this.
(It's a ATI Radeon X600)
The issue i have is that i cannot run media centre on the the Samsung while running the desktop on the 1st Dell monitor.
When i attempt this, all icons on the Dell monitor flash repeatedly and freezes - cannot control this unless you press control+alt+delete.

I have looked for Monitor Drivers but cannot locate any for this model of Samsung.

Any suggestions or advice wouild be greatly apprecaited,

Kind regards,

Dion Hartnett
Any suggestions

SOURCE: My Samsung 943N LCD monitor will work for 1 second

becky_bitz, Do this first! It is only a "rude&crude" evaluation of the state of the monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply" Reconnect 943N to a fully booted KNOWN GOOD pc that has WIN-desktop showing. Then and only then, turn on the 943N and note what happens. After the screen goes BLACK, shine a bright flashlight at the lower left corner to try and see if the WIN-START button can be seen or other desktop icons are being displayed even though the LCD panel appears to be black! If you see a very faint image the SMPS is only in partial SHUTDOWN and is still powering the VGA/LCD interface board to display the images. If you see NOTHING, then SMPS is in full SHUTDOWN mode. In either case, your monitor's SMPS is trying to save itself from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure.(smoke, fire) Becky, fear not the those last two words. In fact your words "work for 1 second" means that the 943N is a good candidate for repair even if to keep as a working spare! To help in your decision making process you should pay a 30 minute visit to YOUTUBE and search out and view some of the longer video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" , "LCD monitor repair" and also visit some websites you find here on fixya. , , are just a few that will point out what is causing your "cold-cahtode-fluorescent-lamps" to fail after 1 second. If you still need help then do a comment to your original post and I will try to help you. lmistyrel @ or 12fix louie on fixya. If this was of some help please rate on fixya.

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START

According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

I have a dell dimension 3000. I want to add a 2nd monitor. I believe the video is integrated, Does the unit have a slot to add a video card. What kind of card should be added?

The Dimension 3000 Springdale G chipset supports AGP 8X cards, integrated video, integrated audio, ICH5, 533/800 MHz FSB, dual channel DDR 333/400 memory, integrated Serial ATA, and the Intel Pentium 4 Prescott.
The AGP 8X slot refers to Advanced Graphics Port. You can add a AGP video card if you motherboard has that slot. Usually that slot is encased by a green plastic enclosure .

I can't find Ethernet Controler for Dimension 9150 Service Tag DB22PY81

You can find all drivers for your 9150 here.
The Intel driver for your built-in network card depends on your OS (WinXP or Vista).

(Your service tag might be outdated, so it doesn't work.)

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Video chip location on computer board

If this is a direct reference to the Dell Dimension 5150 Desktop computer, it is an Intel GMA950 integrated graphics chip, soldered to the motherboard.

You will see Intel at the top of the chip, and GMA950 under Intel.

This is Dell Support, and the Service Manual for the Dell Dimension 5150/E510 Desktop computer.

More specifically this is the Specifications Documentation, and the Technical Overview part of the Service Manual,

I referenced this page, to show you the basic components on the motherboard. Click on the sub-heading - System Board Components, in the list.

At the top of the motherboard you will see the processor sitting diagonally.

Under it you will see the Northbridge chipset, and more specifically in this crude illustration, you are looking at the heatsink which resides on the Northbridge chipset.

(Has a Z shaped clip which holds the heatsink to the Northbridge chipset. The heatsink has a 'meat cleaver' type of design)

In the area that is blank to the Left of the Battery, will be the Intel GMA950 GPU.
(GPU = Graphics Processing Unit, or graphics chip)

If you are wanting to upgrade your graphics quality, purchase a graphics card, and install it in the PCI Express x16 slot.
{In the illustration the slot is over to the Left.
PCI Express x16 connector (Slot 1)

How to know what graphics card is compatible with your computer?

1.You have a PCI Express x16 slot for a graphics card. This is the style of graphics card you need.

It is the PCI Express 1.1 version technology used. I wanted to add this in case you need it for reference.

Be aware of this! No matter what anyone tells you, you can use a PCI Express graphics card based on the PCI Express 2.0 technology, in your PCI Express 1.1 slot.

Because PCI Express 2.0 technology is Backwards Compatible with PCI Express 1.1 technology.

Backwards Compatible. Means it will recognize the PCI Express graphics card utilizing PCI-E 2.0, and will work.

2.You have a 305 Watt power supply. You need to have enough Wattage, (Power), for the computer system, and the graphics card.

I advise using an ATI Radeon graphics card. Which one? Since you have a Pentium 4 processor, 305 Watt power supply,
(With all probability a 18 Amp, 12 volt power rail),
I suggest something along the lines of an ATI Radeon HD3850.

Depends on what you expect from your graphics.

If your reference in your query above is that you believe your graphics chip may be burned out, then I definitely suggest using a graphics card.

The PCI Express x16 slot is controlled by the Northbridge chipset. Doesn't matter if your Integrated Intel GMA950 GPU is burned out, or not.

Lights 3 &4 stay on.

Computer beeping at you is usually a problem with the video card or memory. Try re-seating both and see if you still have the same problem. If you do, individually remove each component and power on to test if the beeps persist.

No 9 pin video socket

Most video cards use a 15 pin VGA connector.

There is also a 9 pin VGA connector, but they are a lot less common - I'm guessing this is what you have.

Is the video cable hard-wired into your monitor or is it connected via a plug? If it's a plug, is that a 15 or 9 pin? If it's a 15 pin, then all you need to do is buy a new 15-15pin VGA cable.

If it's hard-wired, you'll need to buy some sort of adapter. These are available and don't cost much either, but you might need to try a more specialist computer store to find one.

Hope this helps!

Yes your computer based on your model number should be able to support a wireless router.

Now... you did not specify if this is or is not a second computer that is trying to access the router which is hooked up to another computer and modem. If you are trying to access it you will need a wireless nic adapter installed on the Dell. To access the router. Please comment on what the case may be in your situation.
