My scanner is sending my scans as images not text.

HP Photosmart scanner problems

In Adobe Acrobat:-
From 'File' select 'Create PDF', 'from Scanner'.
Scan the first page and the program will ask of you for 'Next' or 'Done'.
Select 'Next' until you have scanned the last page, then select 'Done'.
You can also make the document searchable by carrying out an OCR on it under 'Documents', 'Recognise text under OCR', 'Start'.

Scan and save the file. Open that image and go to "File>Save As" and name it (filename).tiff. Go to "Start->Programs->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Document Imaging". Go to "File->Open" and open your document. Go to "Tools->Send Text to Word."

When process is done Microsoft Word will start and your document will be present and able to be managed as you please.

the scanner will always scan the documents as JPED or BMP, its the OCR software in your computer which will convert it to editable text.
if you dont have any OCR software then you can open the scanned image (TIFF) in microsoft office imaging software (something like that) and click on the W (Word) icon on the top toolbar to convert it to text

Place the document or image into the scanner for scanning. A scanner with a paper feeder will only receive flat papers and photographs, but a flatbed scanner opens to accommodate books, fabrics and leaves along with flat papers. There is even a attachment for feeding photo slides into flatbed scanners.

Step 2 Start the scanning software. If the scanner does not engage the software automatically, press the "start" or "scan" button, or click the scanner icon on the computer screen to initialize the software.

Step 3 Activate the scan. Click the "file" menu and select "acquire," "import," or another practical choice that applies.

Step 4 Preview the item to be scanned. Most scanners have a preview option. This will show the scan area inside dotted lines. The lines can be moved with the mouse to relocate, enlarge or crop the scanning area.

Step 5 Set the resolution for images by number of dots per inch (dpi). For computer screen viewing, 100 dpi should suffice. Use 200 to 300 dpi for items to be printed.

Step 6 Use the appropriate setting for scanning black and white text. If the scanner does not show a preset for text, use "line art" or "black and white" at 300 dpi. Then use the optical character recognition (OCR) program to convert the image of the text into a file for word processi

Please click on Start-----control Panel------Printers folder.
Please right click on the 4500 series printer icon and delete the icon.
Then, once it is deleted, please right click on the empty space on the printer folder and click on "server properties".
Then click on the Drivers tab.
Highlight the Photosmart C4500 and click on Remove the drivers(Entire package) and then click on OK.

Once the drivers are removed, please insert the cd and click on " add a device" and follow the onscreen instructions.
Once it is done, the issue will be fixed.

The other solution is to uninstall and reinstall the software.

The other solution is --
Please click on start-----Computer----C Drive----Program Files----HP-----Digital Imaging-----BIN.
Here, in the BIN folder, we will see either one of the file, hpiscnapp or hpqscnvw.
Please click on this file and try to scan.
This file is responsible for scanning.
Please make a short cut of that file on to the desktop and scan.

Is it installed in windows as a scanner? Dont use scan button on machine try using scanners or document imaging software that needs to be in place on your computer, ie Document imaging in office or scanners and camera in windows, one sends scan signal from the PC, can use the scan button on scanner only when configued to do such. Scanner has software as does the printer both can found at HP web

Please try "Scanners and Cameras" which comes with Windows to see if you can scan images successfully from your scanner.

By default all scanned documents are images (jpeg), OCR software converts the image to text for use with Word. I do not believe the scanner can tell what format to use without your input. More information is available here at HP's Online Support.

Load the text document face down on the scanner glass.
Open the Lexmark Imaging Studio.
Click the Scan & Edit Text (OCR) button (shown below).
The All-In-One Center appears with the Scanning & Copying tab expanded.Click Preview Now in the upper right corner of the All-In-One Center. An image of the scanned document appears in the preview section.
Click and drag the box with the dotted lines to select a specific area of the preview image to scan.From the Select your text editor: drop-down menu, select a word-processing or text-editing program.Click Send Now.
