Re: No volume from Audio-Technica ATM410

The mic you mention is a dynamic mic, and needs a mic preamp to get decent levels for most computer sound inputs

I have two words for you...Phantom Power.

Electrete condenser mic's MUST have phantom power to operate. Look for "Phantom Power" button on your Jackie (surely means Mackie) and try it again BUT turn volume down before engaging phantom power or testing mic.

I plug my mic into my mac and try and use Garage Band. The playback has a bunch of static noise no matter how high the volume of my mic is. How do I fix this problem? My email is

The standard ports on a mac are not the best for audio production. their impedance are quite low an I have found lots of recordings to come out clipped or like you say, full of noise.

Best think to do is to get a cheap USB 2 or firewire external soundcard. One of the best moves to bring a mac to audio life.
M-audio make a good range from ok price to quite pricey :-)
