My GE washer won't go into drain/spin. Clothes are still soaking wet. Model number WDSB208DDRWW

  • Anonymous Aug 04, 2009

The model is wdsr2080dww. It still runs with the door open. all the water was drained but the clothes were still soaking wet like it didn't spin the water off of them. Plus you can smell the mildewed water. Sounds like there's water still in the tub somewhere. This is the second time it has done this.

When I go to start it up it goes right to the drain/spin cycle like it hasn't cycled out all the way or something. I can't even try to wash another load. It won't fill up or anything just goes right to the "washing" cycle and then drain/spin but I don't think it actually spins. I could check the lid pin or whatever but I don't really think that's the problem. It's also leaking water out of the back and I've already checked the hoses. Don't know what that is from either. I won't buy another GE I know that even though I work for the range business.

It would be helpful to know the model number of the GE washer you own to be able to be more specific but ...

Many washing machines run fine with the door open until it comes to the spin cycle (for safety reasons). Confirm that the door is full closed after you have added the detergent.

If the door closed, the micro switch that senses if the door is closed may have failed or be out of alignment.

Please report back here what you have found. OK?

I understand you to say that the washer still runs with the door open.

Please confirm that when you next run the load of clothes, you close the door leave it closed until the all cycles are complete. That is because on many washers, everything runs fine except the spin cycle when the door is open. If the clothes still remain soaked, then the next thing to check is the sensor (switch) that gets pressed or pushed when the door is closed. (Look for a little pin on the door as it closes as it may press into a little hole that has the switch at the bottom.

I realize I may not have understood your reply. Please be patient with me and we will solve this problem, OK?

Clothes soaking wet after washer is done

There is either a problem with the drain or spin cycle. Before the spin cycly starts, ensure that the water drains fully. If it does, then it may either be the belt slipping or the timer malfunctioning. If there is water in the tub when it starts spinning, then you have a blockage in the drain line.

Clothes are still soaking wet after spin cycle

But is the washer empty, if there is still some water in it, there could be something in the drain line,
if all the water is gone, then it sounds like the washer is not reaching the full speed of the spin cycle.

Unless someone can remove the drain line and check the pump, and check the clutch of the machine,
I am sorry to say you should call an appliance person and have them make a service call.

If you where to post the model # of the washer, someone could look at the manual of it and see
how the washer works and what the pump is. I hope it is a simple fix for you.

My maytag neptune washer will not perform the final spin cycle. Therefore the clothes are still wet. Any solutions

Maytag washer parts, GE washer parts, and other brand names on the market are all designed to work interdependently with each other. This system starts to break down if even one part begins to encounter difficulty. Your washer's spin cycle flings a large amount of water out of the clothes, but if the water can't drain, the clothes will soak it all back up, defeating the purpose of the cycle. Excessively wet clothes after the spin cycle may not be caused by faulty washer parts, but rather a blocked drain is a very good bet. Check the drain line for a blockage and try again. If your hose is kinked or bent, this can also cause a drainage problem. The failure of one simple part creates a larger problem for all the washer parts. What can cause a blockage? A number of items; paper left in the pockets of your jeans, coins or other debris, even socks. Check your hoses, and make sure your laundry has empty pockets for future loads.

Clothes wet, doesnt spin fast

Check the drain spigot, where the drain hose attaches to the drain trap under the sink/tub.There may be a blockage in the spigot which is causing the water to drain very slowly and therefor not allowing the machine to spin at normal fast speed.
