When a DVD player starts doing that, it either needs to be cleaned, or something is going wrong with the DVD mechanism inside of it. You can purchase DVD lens cleaner from any large retail store that has an electronics section. However, if you clean it and the problem persists, it will likely be cheaper to replace the unit rather than trying to have it repaired unless you're under warranty in which case any repair or exchange will be covered by said warranty. If you call the manufacturer they will give you your full range of options.

I have a Sony RDR-VX535 dvd recorder/vcr combo. Lately, the dvd drawer will open a few seconds after I insert a dvd (it can be an unformatted disk, a disk formatted on this machine, or a previously-recorded dvd, i.e. a store-bought movie). It will take up to a dozen times of closing the drawer before it reads the dvd disk. I have tried blowing compressed air into the recorder while the drawer is open, in an attemp to blow any dust off the laser window; and have also tried wiping the dvd drawer with a cloth moistened with 70% alcohol, in case my austic son inserted a dvd with sticky fingerprints on it. The problem persists. What can I do to solve this problem?
