Question about Delphi Roady2 SA10085 XM Radio Receiver with Car Kit

1 Answer

High pitch sound in background

Hi, I have a roady xt
When using the car kit there is a high pitch sound in the background it is more pronounced on the talk stations. It is less when I use the wireless radio transmitter but when I hook it up directly using the aux port it is an unacceptable nuisance. I'm afraid it has something to do with the kit and not the receiver itself. Is this a common problem? Do you know of a solution? I don't want to replace the kit and still have the problem.
Thanks in advance,

Re: high pitch sound in background

A high pitch sound while connected in the house is either a problem with the reciever or you are picking up interference from somewhere. However, the high pitched noise when using the unit in a car (especially through an aux. connection), is caused by the alternator of the car. This can be eliminated by connecting a filter in-line with the aux wire (much like filters are installed on the radio power line). The filter is essentially a low pass filter that filters out noise above a certain frequency. You may have to get creative and modify your aux. input cable (i.e. - splice it into the aux cable) in order for this to work, or you can just turn the volume down a bit - it should be less noticeable at lower volumes.

Sounds like its the dock itself. Have you tried using the home dock with the vehicle power or visa versa? This should help you confirm what the problem is. You can get a replacement power adapter here:

A cradle may be difficult to find, but TSS Radio can help you look.

My RoadyXT forgets what channel it was set to when I turn it off for more than a few minutes. It remembers if I'm only moving it from one vehicle to another, but when I turn it off overnight, it comes on...

No battery. Always turn it off with the POWER switch, not just pulling the plug on the radio or taking it ouf out it's base. Using the POWER switch, then it will remember for a little while.

Roady 2 signal goes in and out....

We've been having the same problem with our Roady XT unit at the office. Sometimes I think it's possessed because it goes in and out, changes to the mute mode, and sometimes turns itself off. Just got another Roady XT unit today. It played fine, then went into the mute mode. Called XM and they told me to reset unit to factory default. It's fine at the moment.

Trying to install Roady 2

If the Roady2 has a fm modulator built in, you can go to the menu and set the fm frequency. If it doesn't, you could use a fm transmitter that they have for mp3 players to listen to in the car

It's not in the menu selections because the Roady 2 does not have an internal FM transmitter. The Roady XT does though.

High Pitched whine when using line out with car power adapter

I was ready to mention the car's alternator but you say the noise is there if the ignition is on or off. What type voltage adapter are you using? It sounds as if it's the culprit. If it's an inverter I could understand the noise being generated. Have you tried earthing ALL the components involved? Earthing problems can cause some mighty weird things to happen.\ Are you sure nothing else in the car is switched on? eg. another radio or something with an inbuilt oscillator. Try running the power for the adapter straight from the battery and put a noise filter in line. Are you turning the engine off but leaving the ignition switched on? Doing this can cause a noise from the fuel pump. Oh and make sure the antenna is correctly earthed. Apart from that, I'm stumped BMW
