Question about Toshiba Satellite A60 Notebook

1 Answer

Restore Cd The restore CD doesn't read on the laptop when I start it holding down the "C" key. The restore CD can be read from a different computer no problem. The CD player also reads and boots other CD's (i.e. OS)

Re: Restore Cd

Instead of holdingdown "C" while booting, just press F12 for boot options, and choose cd rom.
You must be a Mac person?
Try that, or just enter bios and set the boot order to make cd rom before the hard drive. Whichever you're more familiar with.
Hope it helps, good luck

Reboot to factory settings for Dell

Try This:

If your operating system is XP, press the CTRL and F11 keys simultaneously when you see the Dell logo after turning on the laptop, and follow the instructions on the screen.
  • Put the computer on.
  • When the Dell screen appears, press and hold the CTRL and F11 key simultaneously on the keyboard, then release them both at the same time. The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.
  • Click the Restore button or press the key to highlight Restore and press the key.

A caution message appears, advising that all data will be lost.
  • Click the Confirm button, or press the key to highlight Confirm and press the key.

The Progress window appears. Once the process has begun, Dell PC the restore usually takes only 8 to 10 minutes to complete. When the restore is complete, the message 'The system recovery process was successful' appears.
  • Click the Finish button or press the key to highlight Finish and press the key.

The computer will restart.
For Vista or Win 7
If your operating system is VISTA / Win 7, press the F8 key when you see the Dell logo. It will take you to the advanced boot menu options, which include 'Repair your Computer'. Select that option and enter your password if asked, then you will see a list of options like 'system restore' and 'command prompt'. The last option says 'Dell PC restore', or something along those lines. Select that option and follow the instructions on the screen.
If in both cases, the Factory default doesn't work, then your laptop's factory image defaults partition has vanished (i.e., been corrupted / deleted). In this case you will have to reinstall the operating system with the CD or DVD shipped along with the laptop. Follow the link below to install windows XP Pro on your own.
  • Start the computer.
  • As the computer starts, press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
  • Press the down arrow to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, then press Enter.
  • Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
  • Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
  • Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
  • In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
  • Click to select the check box for Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition.
  • Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.
  • When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

In both cases, if the factory default does not work, then your laptop's factory image defaults partition has vanished (i.e. been corrupted / deleted). In this case you will have to reinstall the operating system with the CD or DVD shipped along with the laptop. Follow the below link to install windows XP Pro on your own.

Need to do a system restore

You can try by going to help by the start buttton and searching on restore/recovery and doing so. Or you can go to start, control panel and looking to see if there is a restore\recovery icon. Lastly you would have to reinstall your operating system by putting in the cd and rebooting after pressing F2 and selecting boot from CD. This WILL cause all user data to be lost so if you need it, it must be backed up first.

How do i restore an ibm thinkpad laptop R51 PLEASE HELP

For restoration you must have the recovery software of your laptop to recover the system from its default settings. Assuming that you have that software you insert the cd or dvd into your cd or dvdrom drive. When turning on your computer press the boot selection key usually F11 or F12 then select the cd/dvd as your first boot and press enter. Then the recovery software will load and read the on screen instruction.

Second if you do not have the recovery softwarem, turn on your computer and tapping F8 key. By tapping the F8 will load the advance configuration and select safe mode by using arrow up or down key and press enter. When completely loading the windows to safe mode click start, programs, accessories, system tools and system restore. Ok on system restore go to date where restore example right now is march 16, go to february or january and click any date that avaible for restoration click next and click again next.

Warning: In using System Recovery you files will be deleted, your laptop will be back to its factory settings

To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.
