There are 2-1 gig sticks of DDR2-533 240 pin ram in the computer! We just purchased a 2 gig stick of DDR2-533 240 pin ram. We took out one 1 gig stick and put in the new 2gig stick of ram. Now the comptuer will not boot.
Then we took out the 1gig stick and put in JUST the 2gig stick of ram and it will still NOT boot.
    Also reset the CMOS.
We do not understand what the problem is, as this motherboard supports up to 4 gigs of ram????

We have even put the new 2gig stick of ram into another computer, it WILL boot.

Why with this motherboard does the extra ram not work????

Is this a BIOS Issue? If so what is the BIOS version, as it does NOT state a version when the computer is booted. It just states a bios date:
    AMI BIOS (C) 2005
    07/20/2006

From reading on your website you need a bios version to download the apporpriate bios flash utility?

We are not sure what to do next?????????????

    Thank you

I can not find the motherboard specs, but judging by the model name, I would say no. It most likely only supports and FSB and Memory bus clock of 266Mhz

I want tobuy 1gb memory card for my ms 6787 ver2.. what is the specific type of memory card is the best for my board (1gb or 512mb only)

For this particular motherboard, you need a 184-pin DDR SDRAM DDR 266 (PC 2100) memory module. These can be found in sizes ranging from 256MB to 1GB. There are several places that these could be found on the internet. Pricing for a 1GB module seems to be around $44 or $45 USD currently.

The MS-6787 supports a maximum of 2GB of RAM (1GB in each DIMM slot).

Hope this is helpful!

Info from the manual:

Memory configurations

You can install 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1GB DDR SDRAM DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section.

• Install only identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM pairs

using the recommended configurations.

• Make sure that the memory frequency matches the CPU FSB

(Front Side Bus). Refer to the Memory frequency/CPU FSB

synchronization table on the next page.

• This motherboard does not support double-sided 16-bit DDR DIMMs.

• Do not create a three-DIMM configuration in dual-channel mode. The
third DIMM is ignored in the dual-channel operation.

First of all, if your FSB is set to 200mhz, the system will not support DDR400. "CPU at FSB 200MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR400". The FSB will have to be either 333 or 400mhz in order to utilize DDR400. Only 1GB of DDR400 is supported. As to your rebooting issue, could be because of these incompatibilities and/or you did not properly seat the heatsink/fan on the new CPU, which also means you might not have properly applied thermal compound or might have no applied it at all. All the compatibility information for this motherboard can be found at: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7S8XE

Upgrade

Hello,

Thank you for the information. Please find the CPUs supported by the Motherboard of your computer below.

Duron: 1.6 - 1.8 GHz at FSB 266 MHz
Athlon XP:
Palomi** Core: 1500+ - 2100+ at FSB 266 MHz
Thoroughbred Core: 1700+ - 2700+ at FSB 266/333 MHz
Barton Core: 2500+ - 3200+ at FSB 333 MHz
2500+ - 3200+ at FSB 400 MHz

Sempron: 3000 + and up
I see that the present processor is requires ** upgrade as it is one of the best match availble for this motherboard. However, you can upgrade the Memory to 2 GB using two 1GB
DDR 266/333/400 modules to improve the system perform performance. Also, you can consider for a video card upgrade. Your computer supports both AGP and PCI video cards.

Also, you can download the maunal for the motherboard of your computer from the link below for your referance.

System memory FSB

Have you tried installin the memory in various slow...ie 1,2/1,2/1,4 etc?
Its sounds like your mother board is unable to run the sticks at the rated speed as they are different brands and densities so its dropping the speed to 166.

Have you tried going into the bios and changing the ram speed there?
Also try changing the command rate from 1T to 2T to see if that helps.
