SOURCE: We can't send or received faxes

Just a suggestion. This effect can happen if you have plugged the line cord into the tel jack instead of line jack.

SOURCE: My Brother MFC7340 Fax Machine

The busy signal that you hear when trying to send is likely from a receiver-off-hook tone.
The busy signal that someone gets when trying to fax you is due to a receiver being off-hook.
Suggest you check the following...
1. that the handset of the external telephone on the fax line is properly placed in its cradle.
2. if "hook" has been used/pressed on the fax machine, that it has been properly cancelled.
3. if there is an answering machine on the same fax line, that it is not off-hook / answering.

Why wont long distance faxes go through?

There could be several reasons why your fax machine is unable to send long-distance faxes. Here are a few possible causes to consider:
  1. Phone line issues: Long-distance faxes may require a stronger and more stable phone connection than local faxes. If there is interference or noise on the line, the fax machine may have difficulty communicating with the recipient's fax machine. You could try calling your phone company to check the line quality.
  2. Fax settings: Check that your fax settings are correct, including the country code and area code. It's also possible that the recipient's fax machine has changed settings or is experiencing technical issues.
  3. Busy phone lines: Long-distance fax transmissions may be affected by busy phone lines or heavy network traffic. You could try sending the fax at a different time, such as during off-peak hours.
  4. Fax machine issues: Your fax machine may have a hardware or software issue that is preventing it from sending long-distance faxes. You could try resetting the machine to its default settings or contacting the manufacturer for assistance.
It's also worth noting that some businesses and organizations have implemented measures to prevent unsolicited faxes, such as blocking faxes from unknown or unapproved numbers. If you're still having trouble after checking the above factors, you could try contacting the recipient to ensure they are able to receive faxes from your number.

Receiving faxes

Certainly not your fax machine problem.

The client needs to verify your fax number.

Can't send out fax

the number you called does not answer or busy-you may have reached a number not connected to fax or it is connected and not activated in receiving mode-check the number and call again.
if you have a message "out of memory"there is no enough memory available to send your fax.press stop/exit print the faxes stored in the memory to delete them then try again.

Can't receive faxes

Something is causing the fax machine to "trip" to busy. There is some type of short occuring either in the fax machine or the physical phone line itself. Unplug the fax, plug in a regular single line telephone. Call the fax number from another telephone. If the phone rings and you can talk to the other party, the problem is in your fax machine. If the call still is busy, the problem is in your wiring, either in your office or the phone company network.
