Kenmore 23913 Progressive PowerMate Bagged Canister Vacuum Logo
Posted on Aug 04, 2009

My vacuum just stopped working, so I don't know what the problem is. I used it in the kitchen to vacuum the hard wood floor. I turned it off, and a few minutes later, turned it back on to finish vaccuuming the kitchen floor. It just would not turn on. I had not unplugged it or did anything to it. I then tried to see if it would work in another plug, and no luck. I'm trying to figure out if it can be fixed or if I need to look for a new vacuum.

When I get most Vacuums that have dies on people most of them the wire has been worn and cut one or more wires on the plug cord. Sometimes the cut can be over looked. Please unplug and check the wire carefully.
Also please post the make model and year you bought it would help in getting you a answer.

I took the handle off to clean around my baseboards. When i replaced the handle to continue with the rest of the floor the roller head will not come on. The vaccum is still running and i can hear air going through the hose but the light doesn't come on and it won't **** anything up or propel itself.

What to use to shine my hard wood floor

It depends on what sort of finish you want or need, what sort of area and whether it is to be maintained by hand or machine.

The timber must be very smooth and level for a gloss finish or every blemish will stand out whenever the light reflects off the surface.

Floor wax is high maintenance. It can be polished to a decent semi-gloss finish if the floor is sanded to a high standard but it is hard work to achieve and although wax protects the wood it does rather show marks too readily.
Wax is not for worriers.

Semi-gloss or nearly matt is the most practical finish for most people most of the time. Oil is the best preservative for the timber and it will produce a well-defined grain colour but later needs further protection.
There are many propriety finishes available and the hardest wearing is those based on polyurethane.

One of the schools I attended years ago had parquet floors throughout. They had been sanded smooth and sealed and then a mixture of sawdust and wax was swept back and forth several times periodically.
Once or twice each week a polishing machine with soft revolving brushes was pushed back and forth a few times.

How do i alter the dyson dc04 to use on hard floors

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC04 has a brush control on the cleaner head, you'll need to set this to 'On' for carpets, and 'Off' for hard floors. You can find out how to do this on our Support site:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc04/dc04-brush-control/my-machine-is-not-working/i-can-see-something-wrong-visual/i-can-see-something-wrong-visual/my-brushbar-is-not-rotating2/does-the-brushbar-rotate-with-the-power-on

If your machine does not include the brush control, it will only be suitable for vacuuming carpeted surfaces and we'd advise against using it on hard floors in upright mode. However, you can use the hose and wand to vacuum hard floors and we have several suitable hard floor tools available which may help.

I hope this helps - if you'd like further advice you can reach our freephone Helpline on 0800 298 0298. Just to let you know, our Helpline is available from 7am-10pm, 7 days a week.

Can you advise which setting should be used on different floors, ie hard floors and carpets, theres 2 different settings and I don't know which setting should be used on the different floors

Turn the machine on and look at the bottom. Turn to the two settings. The setting that stops the platten wheel from moving is for hard wood floors. If you cant tell, then setting 1 is most likely for carpets and 2 is for hard wood floors. Your machine is primarily a carpet vacuum cleaner, so 1 should be for carpets.

With the DC24 vacuum do you have the option to turn off the brush heads when you want to vacuum the hard wood floor?

Hi,

Yes you can turn the brushes off. To do so, press the yellow button near the bottom of the handle above the dirt cannister as shown in the image below:

Hope this helps. Please post back if you need further assistance.

Problem: I lost my manual. How do I use my vacuum on hard wood floors? How do I use attachments, where do they attach?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Kirby Ultimate Diamond Edition
You can cal the Kirby factory to request a new owner’s manual and they will describe how to use the vacuum on hardwood floors. There is a felt piece as wide as the brushroll area that will clip on to the bottom of the revolving brush area so that you hard wood floors don’t get scratched. The Kirby head will dial off and the Kirby head will come off and the attachment hose will connect to the front of the Kirby and that is how you use the attachments. Also contact your local Kirby vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
