Try calling your carrier; it may be a problem on their end.

call your carrier, you may have reached your limit on Free text messages for the month. Or someone in your family asked that text messaging get turned off.

If you do not have a plan that allows for text messages, you cannot receive text messages. Once you have a plan set-up, you should be able to send / receive text messages. Contact your carrier to setup a text messaging plan.
If you do have a plan set-up, please reply with more information so that I may assist you further.

If you have cricket service. You need to call or stop in a cricket dealer and have them refresh your account. Or You or someone else has hard reset your phone.

Hey, I just bought the same phone from ebay, and it was preflashed for cricket too. My phone had the same exact problem. I called cricket technical support at 1-800-274-2538 and they refreshed my flashing while i was on the phone with them. As soon as I got off the phone with them my phone worked perfectly. I got my problem solved. I called ALLTEL and they walked me through MIN and MDN changes. Apparently, when I got my phone, it was supposed to be a new phone but it was a refurbished one. Things they dont tell you. Anyway, Im all set and now I can send and receive texts. Call your carrier and explain the issue, they should be able to solve your problem. I have already posted this but thanks for asking. I hope this helps someone else.

contact cricket and get there messae centre number of them, enter this into the option on your message settings, also get them to send you a sim update and also a gprs message update this will sort all your problems

It seems that you could potentially not subscribed to your Mobile Carrier, i would suggest calling your mobile carriers Customer support for your country and explaining the situation, your SIM card may just need subscribing/updating with your information for it to work !
