Question about Dell PowerEdge 1800 Server
The light at the front of the server which is normally blue is flashing orange, what does this mean?
Power edge system are having two power input check the cables from the power outlet may be one is in contact otherwise one of your power supply gone means not working. Check the wires first then the power supply units

My server (dell 2500) keeps restarting. there is a yellow light flashing on one of the drives. sometimes when I start it it would tell me container #0 was offline. sometimes it would just restart and i would need to repair windows all over again because of lost file and so on.

Listen, if you have a orange light on the server,
you need to check ESM Embeded system management logs
You need to install Open manage server administrator from the dell website and you can see what is wrong with the server.
It can be anything causing this problem
Orange light means, your server needs your attention!

I had the same problem - flashing amber light on PE 1800. I installed Open Manage server and checked logs - everything was fine. Then I rebooted the server and from the boot menu I chosen memory tests. This tests indicated that there are some ECC correctable errors. I read on google that correctable ECC error might became uncorrectable one in some cases and it is a result of the memory stick which too old/used.
After replacing memory sticks amber light disappeared. Remember about closing the whole chassis. If it is opened then amber light is flashing too.

Can a Dell 2500 server motherboard be used on a Dell 1800 server?

Actually orange light flashing indicates that there is some hardware issue that changes the pre-configuration of the system, The problem I faced is decreasing ram and crashing raid after this light for a short long period. I checked all the hard drives they are quit ok but array is gone. So take care of the server and dont try to restart - avoid restarts make your data secure.

You might run the system diags and see what the problem is. Mine did the same thing when the BIOS battery went flat. I changed the battery and problem resolved
