Yamaha rxa3040 input assignment ? There is only optical, coaxial,and component to choose from ....what do i do about hdmi or which one of these represents hdmi?

A converter box isn't going to fix this problem.
Your TV is a Monitor. It doesn't have a built in tuner. That's why it doesn't have a Cable/Ant coaxial port.
The TV needs a cable box for tuning or some other outside source box for receiving signals.

Are you using cable from the cable company or an antenna for reception?

Number 1 would be to connect the 3 Devices to a Receiver with 3 HDMI Inputs, So this way you get the HDMI Audio as well. 3 in and 1 out to the TV as you know. The other way would be to get a Key Digital HDMI 3 to 1 Switcher. I have used these a lot in the field on installs and they work Great. They also have 4 to 1 if you think you might need more. No programming of the piece you just plug in and setup your TV in the HDMI Menu and your other Devices. If they don't sync AUTO! The Receiver would be Best I feel, Some let you assign 2 different Video and Audio sources at once. Such as Video from a Game and Audio from a CD. Hope this helps out!

It won't let you assign the same input twice. Check to see that DVD is not already assigned to any other In(x) function.
