SOURCE: "reinsert the cassettee" error in Sony HandyCam CCD-TRV 438E.

The camcorder most likely is not detecting the tape, you have a bad sensor and these sensors all come on a flex type board and the flex board is mounted on the chassis surface. This will mean that the entire mechanism will meed to be diassembled, and is a very big and costly job. My opinion is that this repair will run you abut 250 to 300 bucks and this camcorder is not worth this as new camcorders are under 200 bucks. Good Luck

SOURCE: Sony Handycam CCD-F77 won't power up

Sony F77's are known for bad power supply circuit boards. I have one that powers up enough to eject or insert a tape but will do nothing else. Recently I took it to a repair shop. Paid $30 to have it diagnosed but elected not to pay the extra $164-$215 to have the board rebuilt.

It is difficult to find people who will even diagnose these old camcorders, but the repairman said the shops that rebuild the boards get 10-15 a week because people really like the high quality of this particular model. I paid over $1500 for mine in 1983 or so and may yet decide to have it rebuilt.

The repair shop I took mine to is Westronix in Salem, Oregon.

SOURCE: Sony Handycam CCD-TR55E Service manual Required.

I have owned a Sony CCD-TR55E since 1993. It developed exactly the sameproblems as you described around 2000 and it had to go into a worhshopfor repaired. After dismantling it was dicovered that the guide poleswere jamming during the threading process. To cure this problem thesliding deck mechanism was removed and the guide poles re-aligned andaffixed to their driving arms and then reassembled. The cost of was £65in 2000. The repair was carried out by a Sony franchised Dealer.

After hours of laborious searching, I have found a link for a free download of a user manual for a CCD-TR55.

SOURCE: Sony Handycam CCD-TR64 cassette door won't close

Common problem with this mechanism. In order to fix the problem you will have to replace part called CHASSIS LS. Expensive repair, probably not worth the effort.

Testimonial: "Thanks. We ended up getting a new camcorder. That Handycam was as old as I am (18 years), so it was time for an upgrade anyway."

How do i download my pictures from my handycam trv49e so that my tapes can be reused

Search Google and found this:
The Sony CCD-TRV49 camcorder doesn't have a digital output, so you have to capture and convert the analog composite video signal and audio signals. On the PC side you need an analog video capture board, a sound card to capture the audio and a video capture/editing software. You can also find on the market external USB devices that contains all these things.

The composite video is the yellow RCA connector that goes straight to your capture board.
The left audio is the white RCA connector and the right audio is the red RCA connector. These are mixed on a stereo jack plug that enters into soundcard input socket.

This cannot be done by you and you need to refer this to a trained camera technician.
Any force applied to remove the cassette will damage the mechanism.

How to copy a Hi 8 tape to a DVD on a computer

Hello,
Sony handycam model starts with CCD-XXXX shows that its analog camcorder and its picture signal is analog. You can't connect directly camera with PC to transfer files. You need to install MPEG card or some thing like that in PC 1st and this card will digitize analog picture signal into compatible format.
