Squealing Blackberry

I had a similar symptom (beeping) with brand new 957.  After running
application loader the handheld went blank and starting beeping.  When
unit was placed in the craddle it started to emit a single long beep.
Manual reset did nothing.  I called Blackberry support.  They advised
me that I had a "squealing 8 meg" -- the OS I had loaded (2.1) was
incompatible with the newer unit.  They advised running a wipe utility
that they mailed to me and installing the most recent OS (2.5.0
handheld /3.5.0 desktop).  This seems to work except some RIM DLLs
will not register.  However, I believe this is due to an old MDAC on
an NT4 box and not a problem with the Blackberry SW.
