Question about Rotel Audio & Video Receivers

Rotel RX-800 Hello everyone, I have a problem with my old Rotel RX-800. When I turn the volume up, I loose the sound on one of my speakers. It happens randomly, and has been tested on other speakers as well. Any idea? Thanks a lot in advance!

Re: Rotel RX-800

I have an RX 600 - which has just gone 'phut' - which is how I came today to find this website ! I once had your speaker problem but eventually tracked it down to a bad connection of the speaker cable into the rear of the Receiver. Plastic sheathing and dust was partly in the way. Strip off a bit more plastic to expose fresh bright wire, and remake secure tug-proof connection before you try anything else. Oh, and while you doing it, do the others as well !

No sound on left front speaker

you need to set up the individual volume levels for each speaker.
do a sound test tone which will check for a signal from each speaker.
if you hear the speakers at different volumes you know you need to adjust the ones that are too weak. hope this helps

I have a JVC RX 554v Receiver when it's turned on I have no sound their is a mute auto light that's lit in the window....Tried changing the speaker wires with no results...

From the remote control only: Press MUTING to turn off the sound through all speakers and headphones connected. "MUTE" appears on the display and the volume turns off. To restore the sound, press MUTING again. Turning MASTER VOLUME or pressing VOLUME +/- also restores the sound.

RX-V465 is on for 30 - 45 minutes and suddenly sound goes way up and unit shuts down. Happens with audio and video systems and TV. Unit is not overheating. This on a 4 month old machine and problem started...

Maybe some speaker wire is loose and sometimes makes a short-circuit. Check all wires or better disconnect all wires and try to have the receiver turned on without the speakers and see if it helps. If yes, there is issue either with the wires, connections or speakers. If the receiver still powers off without the wires, it is probably faulty and you need to send it for service.

Volume dial doesn't work well anymore - when turning louder, sometimes turns volume lower or just stays at the same volume level

Some manufacturers allow you to set a max volume limit so you don't blow your ears off.  Check the users manual to see how to turn it off.
Also, have tech support install a new potentiometer for you.

You cannot fix the receiver unless you are a technician with the proper tools and circuit diagrams. I would think it worth the cost of repair though.

Good Luck

Problem on Yamaha RX -V 800

check to see if there are any speaker wires that are touching each other near the connections. i had this happen on an onkyo receiver and found it was a purposeful feature intended to keep you from shorting out the receiver. if the + and - speaker wires touch (at the receiver posts or the speaker posts) this can happen.
