RIM BlackBerry 957 Handheld

ELink, Groupwise 6, and RIM Intellisync won't sync...

By Ranny - usenet poster

I recently purchased a RIM and Motient's eLink service. Before that, I was
using RIM and Earthlink's Blackberry service. The reason I moved to
Motient was that I couldn't get the calendar to sync. Now I'm having the
same problem with the eLink service. I am able to send/receive email
properly and can sync address book and task items, but the calendar
syncing does not work.

When you add a new calendar item to the handheld and then try to sync, it
says that the nnew item(s) will be added to Groupwise, but when it goes to
add it, it kicks back a message saying "Unable to complete translation"
and the calendar item never gets added to Groupwise.

The calendar will sync fine when you first install the RIM software
(Intellisync), but once you add a new calendar item to the handheld and
then sync, it won't work. Has anyone seen that "Unable to complete
translation" message? Anyone know of a fix to get the calendar syncing to
work properly?
I have the same problem.

I ended up getting this to work. I archived a lot of older calendar items
(got it down from 8600+ to 1150 or so).

Motient and Puma Technologies were very unhelpful. After calling them
everyday for a week, they dropped the ball and said they didn't support
SP2 for Groupwise 6 (in regards to Intellisync)...even though they told me
in a previous discussion that pulling messages using IMAP would only work
if you had SP2 installed.

If you are using a Blackberry 857, 900 or 957, you might want to try out our
GWmobile product.  GWmobile is actually written as a "native" GroupWise
client specifically for the BlackBerry device.  It doesn't suffer from the
complexities or inadequacies of IMAP or other transport translations.  This
means that the GWmobile BlackBerry behaves just like a standard client for
GroupWise.  It is always synchronized, including calendar items, selected
folders, sent items, read items, etc.

It's more likely that you had an item in the calendar that Intellisync
simply didn't like - archiving them got rid of the one in question.
I've synched many more items than that before to my RIM (and Treo, and
Kyocera . . .<G>), but when it fails it can almost always be tracked
down to a bad appointment, address book entry (cause I've had the same
error in the address book), etc.

Not likely a Groupwise problem, since I just encountered this message
when syncing my Treo to Lotus Organizer.  The only unusual thing about
the calendar entry was (besides that it was created on the handheld)
that I had set an alarm in the handheld.  I don't recall this happening
before and haven't done any more troubleshooting on it, but it seems to
be Intellisync.
