When I hit the power button the circle with the straight up line through it lights up green. (assuming that is the power light) Then the lighting bolt next to the first lit light comes on yellow blinks six times yellow then turns green in a blink then yellow in a blink then all lights go out. Is there a code book for the blinking lights that tells you what is up? I checked the power cord and it powers up a diff. comp. It stopped booting all together , but about a week ago it would keep trying to power on its own 4 or 5 times then the fan would come on and each time it would get alittle farther along until it finally would power up then would run on its own until powered off or hibrenated then would not power up again.

Press F8 and choose command prompt. You may have to use a boot disc if you can't get c prompt. Type cmd ENTER. From the Command Prompt type chkdsk /r/f ENTER. R and F are redundant for repair and fix, but does not hurt.
When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?
When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.
Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.
Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.
Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.
Laptops are so integrated that usually a system failure that involves power issues such as in your case where you cant get it turn on with anything on the screen mean the mainboard (motherboard) is damaged. This usually leads to buying a new laptop or paying for the board to be replaced which usually costs as much as the laptop.
when you hit the on button the green light go off after a while, i suggest you bring it to technician your laptop is shutting down as it about to open, its either the sensor is not working and making it to overheat or the power switch is loose, hope this help
