I haved a HP zv5000 series too, they do get hot, especially if viewing video on YouTube etc. Mine is clean too and I use a "ChillPad" under it from Staples Office Store. I believe it is because the battery is always in it while plugged in, along with the fact that the PC is using all of its' capacity to do its' job.
If your battery is in it while plugged in and in use, try unplugging the PC, or removing the battery, which is BTW not supposed to be left in all the time while plugged in. But who doesn't do that? LOL
