Is it a new 4GB memory card? If so that might be your problem. The card would likely be an SDHC card, and your camera was designed well before the SDHC format came out. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less).

But if the card is less than 2GB, it could have become corrupted. In this case you could try formatting the card in the camera to see if this would rejuvenate it. This will also erase the card. See this post if you wish to first recover those pictures.

Finally, if this is occurring with multiple cards, and is also saying "card locked" even though the tiny slide switch is in the unlocked position, then see this post for a possible remedy.

SOURCE: memory card error

Check the slot and see if the pins inside are fine, no breakages, free from dust etc. Try turning the camera on and off (completely remove batteries etc).

SOURCE: memory card error

Usually, this means you need to format the card in the camera before using. This completely erases the card and optimizes it for the camera.

SOURCE: inserted new memory card

I'm guessing that you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with your camera.

You'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

Took out memory card to transfer photos. returned card to camera and it indicated memory card error shut down leaving lens out.

Never remove or insert a memory card while the camera is turned on. Try removing the battery, waiting about 30 minutes, and then putting in a freshly charged battery.

Hi - I am getting an error message when i switch on my Sony Cybershot dsc t9 saying access and then it flashes format error C13.01 - can you advise how to resolve?

It might be due to a bad contact of the placed memorycard.

1. Pull the memorycard out and in the camera several times and retry.
2. If not OK, format the card in the camera. If that does not work, format it in the computer.
3. Try another memorycard and recheck.

My camera is giving me a "no memory card" sign, but the card is inserted correctly. I have taken it out, cleaned it, and put it back, replaced the batteries, and everything. However, to no avail....

If the camera displays Memory card error, No Memory Card, or takes an abnormally long time to write an image to the memory card, when a memory card is inserted or any of the above error messages, make sure that the card is inserted properly. For SD card, make sure that the card lock switch is in the correct position and not stuck in-between.Try formating the memory card ,if after formatting the card in the camera the error persists, try another memory card. If this occurs with only the one card it is likely that the memory card is defective, if the error persists over more than one card the camera may require service.

It says memory card error.i took out the sd card and it was not locked and it still says memory card locked. i formated the card also and it still says the same thing.

How big is its capacity ? Some device can only support memory card at certain maximum capacity, if you inserted card with higher capacity it wouldn't able to read it and it would say "card error".
Try to insert another card with lower capacity. i.e. if you have got "card error" notification for inserting 4 Gb memory card, try to insert 2 Gb card

Hope this help, and if you think its helpful RATE please.

"Memory card is locked

This error message means that the memory card is write-protected. To take a picture, turn off the camera. Then insert a new card or change the storage location to internal memory.
