I'm havin the same exact problem and I can't figure out how to fix it.Please help.

I had the same problem where my mute button went orange/red and the quickplay buttons stopped working. I had noticed other issues with mine as well, a little slowness, some intermittent errors and decided to replace my RAM just to have more memory and did not replace it with the intention of fixing the Quickplay button issue. Much to my surprise though as soon as I installed the new RAM my Quickplay buttons started working again, along with all my errors going away. I'm wondering if I had a memory leak in the RAM or a virus possibly, not sure, but the problem was solved with new RAM.

Ok the problem lies within the software. You may need to update the driver. Yes drivers tell this device added what to do. So log onto HPs website, download the updated version. This should help, if this does not help it then becomes hardware, which is better off leaving alone do to the expense.

I have an hp dv9000 and the web cam only works on yahoo instant message. how can it be made to work on it's own?

To turn on an HP webcam:
1. Go to QuickPlay (press the blue-lighted button above the F3 key (or next to the power button)).
2. When QuickPlay shows up, there is a row of six icons across the bottom of the screen: click on the second one from the left (the one with the photo-movie_reel-music_notes).
3. A window with three 'frames' shows up. On the left frame there are six items: the fifth one should say 'HP Webcam'. Click on it.
4. The webcam's blue LED light should now be turned on. There should be a rectangle with dimensions of ratio 1:2 which should show what the camera is sensing.
5. There is a row of seven buttons above that rectangle: the seventh is for taking snapshots and the sixth for recording videos.
6. Videos and pictures are saved at:
Pictures -- C:\Users\Public\Public Pictures\My Snapshots
Videos -- C:\Users\Public\Public Videos\HP Webcam
sometimes it doesnt say "hp web cam" it says "usb video device"

Quickplay movie clips

You probably simply need the correct "Codecs" you need to find out the Movies extn... ie some are whatevername.MOV or whatevername.WMV etc. Once you know this then you can get the "Codec" that will allow player to work with it. Simply Google for it.

I have an HP DV9000 that I'm having an issue with on power up. When I plug the AC adapter into the laptop I have the blue light on insert so I know the laptop is getting power. When I depress the power on...

Unplug your battery and leave it off for about 10 minutes. depress the power button(with the battery off) to get rid of excess power. reconnect the battery and try again. If no luck, try with power cable only(no battery) if no luck, sounds like a motherboard issue.

I have a problem with my webcam sound. I recorded my assignment speech and when i try to listen to the speech, there was no sound coming out from the webcam. i tried everything and nothing worked. Can you...

Hi chinonsobeau,

First off, you to list the model number of your HP web Cam, as well as your OS, and the software you using to record your sound. I will assume that you have Quickplay which HP ususally send out with their web cams.

To access QuickPlay, just press the "blue QuickPlay button" next to the power button. If it doesn't load QuickPlay, just do "Start" - "All Programs" - then you will see QuickPlay listed there. If you still can't find it just do a search, you will find the short-cut. If you still don't find it, then HERE is a place you can download it and use it. It also has instruction on how to use it.

Or sometimes HP sends out Cheese, another camera software. You can download that HERE.

These are the instructions for QuickPlay:

Once launched QuickPlay, click on the 2nd icon from left (between DVD and TV icon), then double-click on "HP Pavilion WebCam" from the left side panel, then you will see the blue LED light lit and you should see yourself on the screen. (Double-click "yourself" to enlarge image)

To take a picture or record video, just press the corresponding buttons on the top. (the red circle icon is for recording video (press "Stop" icon to stop recording), the camera icon is for, well, camera)
Videos and pictures are saved at:
Pictures -- C:\Users\Public\Pictures\My Snapshots
Videos -- C:\Users\Public\Videos\HP Webcam

I'm less familiar with Cheese, so I'll give you their website HERE to go to their support and they can guide you through their program.

Anyway, I hope this helps,

Don't forget to leave a raing,

Thanks

Mark

HP dv9000 won't play Blu ray DVDs

The problem is QuickPlay. Some discs work, but those that didn't, played just fine on my PS3. I had to buy Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 Ultra (10 Ultra also plays Blu Ray), and now, they all play on my HP dv4 laptop. Updates won't matter. Don't use QuickPlay, it's very "fical". Hope this saves you time & frustration. It's not you, it's not your Blu Ray drive, or drivers, it's simply the software/program (QuickPlay) that is the problem.
