Question about Maytag MSD2650H Side by Side Refrigerator

Frigerator runs constanly till compresser gets to hot

My maytag side by side frige 2004 runs constantly then overheats the compresser and the overload relay works and keeps the compresser fom firing back up. I can hear it trying to start back up right away but it won't, if I unplug it and let the overload cool down and reset, it will fire back up and run continusly until it gets to hot and trips the relay again. At first I thought it was the overload relay and capacitor so I replaced them and it ran constantly till the compressor got to hot and tripped the relay again. when it runs it gets ice cold. Could it be the cold control thermostat or the defrost timer, its a circuit board, or defrost thermosat. it gets very cold but something is not shuting the compresser off when it reaches the temp setting and it keeps runnig till it gets too hot and the relay trips but it keeps trying to restart right away i can hear the loud buzzing. I did not check those yet I just thought it was the compressor overload and capacitor. I'm an Idiot, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Sounds like it might be the thermostat
sensor bulb is defective see if you can
turn the refrigerator off with the thermostat
the defrost heater is supposed to heat up
enough to open the defrost thermostat

Make sure the defrost timer works to
turn on lhe heater & turn off the defrost tstat
turn the power off and check the tstat & defrost
heater for continuity check to see if tstat open
and closes when you turn the knob,

if you remove the tstat you can check the
bulb in ice water and warm water aborv 40
to see if tstat cycles on and off

yes compressor runs and shuts off every 8 - 10 hours for a half hour for defrost system mode. but ur hot left side may be a sign of issues needing to be addressed>

FRIDGE COILS or door walls SEEM VERY HOT:

The condenser coils do get hot. They can even be to hot to comfortably touch and this is normal.

The refrigerator should not run constantly but shut off with each defrost cycle.

Running constantly and never cycling off can indicate a cooling problem.

One thing to try is to wait till it has been running a few minutes then open the door and turn your cycling thermostat towards the off position. It should cycle off before getting to the off position on the dial.

If it does not cycle off then it's not getting cold enough to satisfy the thermostat. This is likely the reason the refrigerator runs all the time.

A thermometer in a glass of water can be used to check the temperatures in the refrigerator section.

You can check that all fans are running.

Freezer on and off

Could be a couple problems. The thermostat may not be making the contacts close to tell the compresser to turn on all the time. The compresser could be overloading which would be caused by overheating (clean the condenser). The freezer and frige evaperators may be becoming frozen up due to a bad defrost timer. When the freezer warms up check to see if the compresser is running, if it is not put your hand un it, if it is hot then it's overloading and should be replaced. If it is running and isn't really hot check to make sure all of the fans are running, should be one condenser fan and one on each evaperator. And look for ice build up inside the freezer and fridge. If all the fans are running and coils are clear and compresser is running next st is a plugged cap tube which is the metering device to the evaperators. The mechanic can trim them down six inches and fill the system and they should work great again. Hope this helps

Refrigerator is not cooling. Compressor comes on than off after 20-30 seconds

you need to replace the ptc overload relay replaced on the compressor as this component is getting weak and is cutting out,it uses temperature vs. heat to protect the compressor from a no start or when the compressor cant operate on the run windings and overheats, then this ptc overload relay cuts out the compressor to protect it,it will keep trying to start the compressor till the ptc burns out,it just unplugs off the compressor and a new replacement plugs back in

I have an Amana bottom freezer frigerator. The

Possibly a bad relay/overload or shorted run capacitor. If it was built between 2002 and 2005 it may be a bad compressor in which case you would want to check the warranty for possible coverage.
the relay/overload and run capacitor plug right into the compressor on the left hand side.
IF it isn't under warranty and the Oem part won't get it going pick up a 3in1 hard start for it they are easy to install and will get it working for you.

You should be able to see the fan spinning if you look under the frige with a flashlight to the back or feel air flow (tissue paper helps) coming from underneath it. As for the center column, if you mean the divider area between sides, that being real hot means the compressor refrigerant is overheated. It should be warm to touch not hot. Sounds like your condensor fan is out or packed full of dust bunnies and not spinning. The compressor will overheat and "trip" the thermal overload on and off so you do need that cooling fan. All the underside of the frige needs to be clean and clear of hair, pet fuzz, etc. in order to cool properly. The fan is likely out of warranty but they are cheap and easy to replace by a homeowner.
