Most spray arms are easily fixable. they are held on by screws or brackets. you can just put them back yourself. sometimes they come loose due the vibration caused by the dishwasher operation.

Samsung DMR78 dishwasher makes a grinding noise at the beginning of the wash cycle as well as the rinse cycle. Also comes up with the code 9E on occasion.

Check the brackets that hold the top rack for any broken plastic brackets. My dishwasher was making the same noise and after noticing the broken plastic pieces I pulled out the dishwasher put it on its side removed a white panel on the bottom that is attached with two screws, removed the drain line and inside there were two plastic tabs from the broken bracket. Once those were removed the grinding noise stopped. The bracket holding the drain hose can be removed with a pair of pliers.

It smoked out my house when it was on the drying cycle any ideas?

did you have any plastic in it like a tupperware or anything for a baby?the water sprays so hard that it sometimes pushes plastic cookware or whatever out of the racks and it lands on the heater and melts the plastic, also if overloading the racks the plastic wheels pop off and burn on the heater,if not this then you'll have to kill the power and start looking for a broken wire on the door, amelted wire nut where the power wires are connected to the machine or the motor smoked up,could be anything, were you near the machine when it happened?could you see where the smoke was coming out of,under the machine or inside, also next time send the model number

Dishwasher will not drain. water stays on the bottom of the unit/

Not knowing what make or model you have I can only give you general advice. As a Maintenance Supervisor for an Apartment complex, I run into this all of the time. You will need to start by cleaning out the filter basket. it is under the plastic grate at the bottom of your dishwasher inside of the unit. There are a couple of things you will need to remove, but it is usually just a matter of a few screws. I find food, broken glass, (Be Careful), plastic wrappers and on and on. With this clogged or any impeded water flow the water will not drain. The other area to check is the airgap located on top of your sink. Pop the top off and carefully remove the plastic insert and see it that is clogged. Unless your pump is broken which is doubtful, these are the only two areas that will keep your dishwasher from draining.

Junk inside spray arms stopping them up.

Every once in a while, run it with powdered lemonade inside. It'll cut down on your lime deposits. It works. Just dump it inside. No need to put it in the resevoir

The upper spray arm came off. How to I put it back on?

I realize this problem was in March of 2008 but if in the case someone else needs the solution. The Frigidaire website doesn't list this in there troubleshooting list either.

I had the same problem and let the upper spray arm off for a couple of months. My glasses were not getting cleaned as well so I was rewashing everything by hand. What's the point of that if I have a dishwasher.

On the inner roof of the dishwasher there is a round piece that you hook the upper spray arm to. Well it's a pain to try to just snap it on. Unscrew it by hand, get the little white plastic piece so the teeth are pointing out of the hole and snap on it on that way. One tooth at a time and it should go back on. It will be wobbly. Works like new I am so happy !

From now on be careful what you place on the top rack, if the item is too big it will cause it to snap off again. I know I will :)

Thank god I didn't get a repair man in here for something as minimal as that.

Broken nozzle and upper spray arm

Thanks for the help. Like the other guy said the "ninga star" thing unscrews and using the plastic part inside I just pop the spray arm back on. Screw it back and it works again.

If there's no water entering your dishwasher, check these:

Water-inlet valve
Float switch
Water-inlet valve
The water-inlet valve lets water enter the machine. If this valve is defective, you need to completely
replace it. It's usually located behind the lower access panel on the left or right side. It's the device
with the main water line (usually copper) from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two
wires attached to it.

Float switch
The float switch is a small electrical switch that's located right below the dishwasher "floor."
Above the switch, on the inside of the dishwasher, is a plastic cylinder that floats up as water fills
the dishwasher. If this switch is defective, or if the plastic float gets caught or trapped in the raised
position, the water can't enter the dishwasher. If the float switch is defective, you need to replace it.

To clean the drain on the inside of the tub area you must take the upper and lower racks out first. The lower just slides out and the upper needs the plastic end caps removed from the guides. Next are the two Phillip head screws from the water tube that distributes water to the middle and upper spray arms. This just snaps into the tube behind the lower spray arm. Removal of the lower spray arm is a little tricky. Hold the spray arm and with a pair of needle nose pliers turn the spayed sticking up in the middle of the top of the lower spray arm clock wise. Careful, the spayed piece is plastic. Yes you will think it is the other way but it is not. Remove the lower spray arm. There are (4) four # 20 Torx™ head screws that need to be removed. This will remove the water shed cover. Then there is a #15 Torx™ head screw that covers the waste disposal auger and disposal screen. That is where the clog usually is on the inside of the machine making it not drain properly. I would clean all of the pieces and reassemble in reverse. After that you should run the machine twice and listen to make sure that the water is filling and draining properly. This will also remove all the built up soap residue from it not draining properly.

I had the paper from tea bags, a couple of pieces of un-popped pop corn, a tooth pick, two twist ties from bread and a Barbie necklace clogging my machine. Imagine that!

Poor washing

before you suspect the pump and motor assy, do you hang the silverware basket on the front side of the lower rack or if not did one of the holders for the rack fall off and you replaced it? I have found that id the basket is hung on the rack that tall utensils will hold the door from opening fully. when that happens water from the spray arm will not hit the soap dish and when you open the door you will see soap in it. also there is a plastic peice on the top rack if not installed the correct way it wil hold the dispensor door closed causing the soap to stay. I see this problem all the time. when in the wash cycle do you hear the water spraying around inside? If you do I would not suspect the pump and motor. And with whirlpool the pump and motor is a full assembly and it is disconected from the under side of the washer and removed from the top. also run it empty on a short wash cycle and listen for the dispensor door to pop open. make sure thats working properly to. check all that out and let me know if it helped. good luck
