I have a toshiba satellite A45-S250 that i am replacing a bad hard drive on. I do not have a working dvd-rw drive at the moment. I was wondering how i can install windows xp on the new hard drive if ...

I am not sure what BIOS that system has, but if it does not support USB booting, then you could try borrowing an external disk drive from a friend, the BIOS should at least recognize that and allow you to boot from it.
You could also see if you can upgrade the BIOS to get the functionality you want.
When was this laptop made? I can think of any system made in the last 10 years what wont boot from USB.

Hard drive has bad sectors. Before your replace your hard drive when getting this error, try this- Boot from a Windows XP CD and choose Repair at the first prompt to get the recovery console. Type "chkdsk c: /p/r" at the prompt. Repeat until there are no errors found. Exit and reboot. It worked for me.

Dell Latitude D800-Win XP- My Dvd/rw wont write

Because you lost two devices, the DVD and the wireless mini card, I believe your problem is a drivers issue.
You should make sure you do not have any Malware that is removing these drivers.
If you have access to the Internet download and install Malwarebytes. It has a quick scan that will ID any infections.
Then get the newest drivers for those two devices from Dell's support site.
Before you install the drivers, remove those devices in Control Panel.

Computer does not recognize DVD drive

i had this problem on my computers search the internet and there is a step by step which will solve it. worked on my pc and laptop
Many third-party programs that control CD or DVD burning (as well as some player applications) install CD- or DVD-ROM filter device drivers into Windows. These filter drivers are meant to allow for low-level hooks into the hardware, to allow for functions such as packet writing (where a CD-R/W or DVD-/+RW can be written incrementally, like a hard disk).

These filter drivers sometimes have problems that can cause the CD or DVD drive to stop working correctly. The device entry for the CD or DVD drive in the Device Manager may show up with an error descriptor that reads "The device could not start." Additionally, there may be an error message that reads "One of the filter drivers for this device is invalid." The devices themselves do not show up in Explorer. Error codes for the device include code 31, code 32, code 19 or code 39, and sometimes the even more ominous warning "Your registry might be corrupted" appears.

Fixing the problem simply involves deleting the filter entries for the third-party device drivers. These entries can sometimes become damaged (which is what produces the "corrupt registry" warning).

To delete the offending keys, open the Registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCl ***\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. . Delete the keys named UpperFilters and LowerFilters and reboot.

Several of the products made by Roxio are infamous for causing this problem, although in fairness to the company the most recent versions of their Roxio CD/DVD writing software (6.2 and higher) do not have these problems. Users of 5.0 or 6.0 editions of the Easy CD & DVD Creator product, which has been bundled with many new PCs in the past, should upgrade to 6.2 or better. Other programs can also cause this problem, with the same solution.

Note that after you do this, you may lose functionality in the program that uses the filter drivers, which may need to be reinstalled.

Cannot boot laptop on startup I get the message ''MBR error 3''

1) Boot from XP / Vista install dvd.
2) when prompted select "repair console" (or what's it called)
3) in the dos window type "map" -> you should see the list of your disks
4) now type "fixmbr [device_name]" where "[device_name]" is what the "map" command found for you and should be your primary drive.

Warning! This is a "in deep" operation and may cause data loss.
If you are not sure what you are doing - have a pro do it.

Internal Hard Disk Upgrade

Yes, there is. Match the type of drive (Serial ATA or Parallel ATA) you get with what you have. Make sure your Satellite sees the drive in the BIOS. For drives larger than 120 GB, recommend operating systems Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or higher) or Vista. Older OS's have a 137 GB limitation (they only see the first 137 GB of the hard drive despite its size).

I don´t have internal cd, only external(usb)

You will need an internal CD drive for the machine in order to load XP. If it doesn't recognize the external in the boot menu, then there is no setting to get it to.
