Keeping hand pressure on the whole tension setup(so everything does go flying off all over the place, Unscrew the knob, take it off, and everything after it until you have the discs off, NOTE: place them in front of you in the order they came off and the way they came off. Clean the discs with rubbing alcohol and check them for damage. After I've cleaned mine, I put a bit of clear machine oil on my finger and rub it on the discs...NOTE: sew on scrap after this until any trace of oil on fabric is gone. Put everything back on and give it a go. Another thing to check is if the tension setup is working at all, lift your pressure foot and pull the thread, does it move easier? If it doesn't, it's another issue. I don't know how to fix the mechanical side, if that is the issue, but it may just be the threading. Unthread your machine completely, take the thread spool off its holder to make sure the thread hasn't wrapped around anything, put it back and re-thread. Hope one of these works for you, good luck!

SOURCE: How do i set thread tension on a 306W Singer

Top tension about 4 or 5, make sure the presser foot is up when you theread the machine, make sure you can just pull the bobbin thread through with some slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the screw on the bobbin case a quarter of a turn at a time anti clockwise.

SOURCE: burnette 65 bobbin tangling can't adjust thread tension

Have you replaced the needle with a new one? Your needle may be bent or in wrong, or the wrong size. You may have a bad needle. Check that the upper thread path is running freely and is not tangled or wrapped around anything. Make sure that the bobbin is unwinding in the correct direction as well, most bobbins, this is clockwise as the bobbin faces you. If you are using inexpensive thread, it could be the thread that is the culprit. Uneven thread in the needle will not flow through the needle properly, and cause bunching as well. Save it for the bobbin, and use good thread in the top.

My 8500Q Singer sewing machine - the thread is bunching up and getting tangled in the feed dogs from the bobbin I believe. I cleaned out all of the lint, replaced needle, and checked upper thread

  1. Check the threading: Ensure that the upper thread is threaded correctly through the tension and take-up lever, and that the bobbin is inserted correctly in the bobbin case.
  2. Adjust the tension: Check the tension on the upper and lower threads. If the tension is too loose or too tight, adjust it according to the instructions in your sewing machine manual.
  3. Clean the feed dogs: Make sure that the feed dogs are clean and free of debris. If they are dirty, clean them with a soft brush.
  4. Check the needle: Ensure that the needle is inserted correctly and is the correct size and type for the thread and fabric you're using.
  5. Inspect the bobbin case: Make sure that the bobbin case is clean and free of debris. If it's dirty, clean it with a soft brush.

I am not sure about this particular machine but in most machines there will be a nob on the front loose low numbers like 0 1 -2 work well on number 3. If the nob is not on the front check and see if it is on the side.

Singer - 241-12, bobbin thread not stitching

I have a 241-12 Singer. New to me. It was running great. Then the bobbin thread ran out. Put in one prewound bobbin that came with it, even though the bobbin appeared different. The bobbin thread didn't feed and the machine jammed up. I finally wound the old bobbin and put it in. It will only feed about 6" of thread before the bobbin thread breaks. It becomes so tight I can't get it to feed. Both bobbins will not feed. However I don't believe it's the bobbin tension because thread will pull through fine when pulled manually (if it hasn't been in the machine yet). What am I doing wrong?

I have a singer 14sh654 serger. Having trouble with the left needle thread tension disc, it seems to be stuck. Even when it is at 0 and presser foot up there is still too much tension on the thread. ...

Try cleaning the tension discs with a thicker piece of the thread knotted 3 or 4 times and running it back & forth through the discs because there could be lint stuck in there. You should do this at least once a month, alot of threads leave lint behind. Also, check your diffential, put it to neutral. If, that does not help, take it in for service before something breaks off.

I keep getting birdsnests when sewing. i have rethreaded as i have seen in other questions and the thread feeds freely when the presser foot is up but does not tighten when the presser foot is lowered....

If the top thread is not tight when the pressure foot is lowered, then the thread can't be in the tension properly. Check the tension dial is set to the correct number?? usually 5 if numbered from 1-10. Check thread is laid into the tension device correctly, clean the tension discs by running a clean piece of waste through them. Review your threading and try again.

The bottom thread is not feeding properly. It looks matted. Is the tension not set properly.

What quality of thread are you using? If it is old thread, poor quality thread, or the tension is not correct you will have difficulty.
Try this first: If you machine has a drop in bobbin, check your user manual for tension settings which usually don't need adjusted. If it is a pull out bobbin then try this: Pull 4" inches of thread out of the bobbin and drop it. If it stays there the tension is too tight and must be loosened. If it drops quickly the tension is too tight. If it drops about 1 inch and stops it is just right.
Also wadding can happen if you have a burr on your needle so change that out and see if it makes a difference.
Poor quality thread leads to more trouble than the saving you get. Try a quality Mettlers or Gutermann thread and that will really help.
Hope I helped.

Loopy thread during stitching

if loops appear on underside of fabric, make sure machine is threaded correctly (check instruction manual for threading). when presser foot is resting on feed dogs, needle thread should be quite tight when pulled through needle (needle should bend a little). if thread does not feel tight, check threading again and ensure thread is between tension discs (presser foot should be up for threading and then down to check tension). if threading is good and tension seting is at 5 but still not tight enough check no htread is caught in tension assembly. if tension assembly is clear try tightening needle thread tension to 6,7 or 8 and see if that helps.

if the above is correct check for damage to the needle hole in the needle plate and polish with fine emery tape if necessary.

if you still have trouble best see a technician for possible repair to bobbin case or hook/shuttle mechanism which you may damage trying to fix yourself.
