Question about Toshiba TP55H60 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Powers on and off randomly

My tv powers on and off randomly.
Basically, watching TV, it shuts off automatically, then a second later turns itself back on. This happens randomly and repeatedly.

Wondering if this has something to do with my Verizon DVR box as I seem to recall it happening on my other tv as well. My tv is plugged in to the wall outlet though so?

Thanks for any advice.

Tv randomly turns off. Not sure if it is overheating or if something is broken.

It sounds as if you are having problems with the AC Power reaching the television. Please verify the cord is firmly seated the tv's ac inlet
Also check the wall outlet (and power strip) by plugging in a lamp into it and see if it flickers when the tv shuts off.
Good Luck!

I go to turn it on and it sizzles and shuts itself off.

Replace the flyback. You need the 259296 flyback replacement kit which has the flyback related capacitors and the CD with detailed instructions. The kit is available at

TV turns on, then turns itself off about 2 seconds later.

set has a self diagnostic---after set does shut down press and hold MENU AND DEVICE(INPUT) buttons on front of set for 5 seconds----if 2 blinks, a pause and 2 more blinks: this is short protection error code---The set does use 2 Stk394-250 and each is protected by a pico fuse in the power supply---if either fuse is blown the set will shut down(it detects no voltage or missing voltage;) It is not uncommon for a shorted IC to cause this problem; if you locate the STK's look carefully at the resistors around them---if any are discolored or burnt---you have found your problem.

When I power up, 5 seconds later this back projector TV turns itself off

t does sound like a bulb problem, either its over heating and shutting off to protect itself, or its already shot. Give a TV repair shop a call and see if they can give you an approximate price, then decide to ditch or repair it.
