my computer will not connect with the internet and the cable company diagnosed the problem as a bad nic card. How can I replace that and how much does it cost?

- Thank you. We will try that. This will be compatible with the HP523n?
a Nic card is a simple device (Network Interface Card) presumably a desktop machine I suppose. Just go to a local ABC warehouse or Walmart and by a new Network Adapter "NIC" PCI card and install with the drivers provided. Should be around $12-25.00 depending on the model... this should work: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2067722&findingMethod=rr

I have a P4GV-LA mobo in a Compaq Presario SR1503WM. It belongs to my father who got a virus he wanted me to remove. I live over 1,000 miles away so he mailed the hard drive to me, I put the hard drive in another Compaq Pc and completely cleaned it up and sent it back. IT DIDN'T WORK. Trying to walk him through troubleshooting over the phone was next to impossible, (he's 81) so he shipped the whole pc to me. The bios shows all 4 ide's but does not see the hard drive. I've tried all the jumper settings for slave and master but get nothing. I've also tried other hard drives with same results. Please help. THX
