On the surface that makes sense however if the monitor is causing a problem I would now have two computers not working instead of one. I had this checked out by a PC Tech it is the monitor only nothing else.

Again installing a monitor thats bad on someone elses machine if its shorted you risk cause similar damage to another machine.
The computer starts fans are on hard drive is running. The second monitor I tryed on the computer just plain didnt work for some unknown reason. I had a PC tech check it out it turned out to be the monitor only all testing was done without using the old monitor.

If you have friend maybe you can borrow for a while to check either your monitor having problem or the video card. If your power of the monitor still OK possible the problem is came from your video card.

Please let me know any update. I am here to help you.

Try to replace borrowed monitor If the problem goes the same the problem was in your video card.

Each monitor has a different response to "no activity" from the system. So for the monitor, if you get a chance, try your monitor on another machine that you know does function. At work, neighbour, or other.

For the computer, does the it (beep) or POST (Power On Selft Test) when you turn it on, do you see and hear what you would if the monitor was connected?

If it sounds normal, then everything should be fine and luck might have it, your backup monitor is not working either, try another one from the same friend or neighbour above.

If it doesn't POST, you could have a video or other card or ribbon connection loose in the computer. Either you or a friend, or the service center, whichever feels comfortable reseating all the external and internal equipment, bearing in mind static electricity and proper handling measures for the computer.

If you go on e-bay you should still find people who will fix just the power supply or sell you a kit or for that matter just the one ic that causes the problem . (you would replace bad caps you self) If you replace just the bad caps you will find it still will not work with out that ic

My Dell 1800FP monitor went black

Confirm your cables did not work themselves loose. Try using a different power cable to confirm that it was not the cable. Finally try a lamp in the socket you are using for the monitor power cable, if you are not using a power bar but even then just to rule that out. If the only thing left is that your monitor is dead, you will need to recycle that one and purchase yourself another one. Sorry

this is a little known porblem Dell has. Dell is not tell anybody.
I don't know if this is going to fix the monitor for the long haul, but it should help in the mean time.
grable the frame of monitor with both hands, apply some pressure, not too much (you will break the glass). change location and do the same thing. the screen will come back at certain location, when you apply the pressure to the frame. this is because some connection inside of the frame is coming loose with time.

good luck
if that doesn't fix the proble, please post.

Dell LCD monitor suddenly loses power

Hello,

Five years is a long time for an LCD panel. You definetly got your money's worth.

But, if your trouble shooing has led you to this conclusion I can also only conclude that the power driver inside your panel just gave up the ghost.

However, try giving Dell a call, for what's thats worth and see what they have to say.

You might also want to ask this expert "Robotek" what he may think as he is a board troubleshooter and could give you an answer if one is there.

Type this or copy and paste into your browser's address bar:

And then click on the Ask Me button under his picture.

Dell LCD - Power problem

To my knowledge, there is no easy fix. If the LCD is not powering on and your AC adapter indicates there is power, then it is in the circuitry of the LCD assy and your best bet is a TV repairman.

Odds are, that you can buy a replacement cheaper that the cost to repair that one (1800FP is an 18" LCD by the way) You can buy a 19" Wide aspect Dell LCD at Walmart for $199

Analog Dead/DVI OK

Sounds like the video controller board inside the monitor has blown a transistor. They are only about 3mm wide so not easy to spot even if you look closely.

It's a fairly rare fault, though not unknown to happen without reason.
