Re: wireless doesn't work when network is secured

Please check the key index set on the wireless router. Then, please check the key index setup on the laptop/desktop?

The key index can be found by going to Wireless Network Connection Properties and on the Wireless Networks tab.

Hope this helps :)

You do not need the disk, if you want it on one device that is fine. log into the routers IP address and under wireless security there will be a key. If there is no key make one now. Make the security type WPA or WPA2. On the laptop, click on the wifi signals in the lower right hand corner next to the clock. Select your network and check to always connect to that network. Type the same key that was in the routers wifi security box.

In this case, the key you would type in the laptop would be what475ever. I don't even know why they shipped a CD with the things. All it does is confuse people.

Can't connect DSi with same security as comps

hello, yes i had the same problem, but i had it with many other computers, the way i solved it was going into the router settings and click the "restore default settings" then turned the router off for 15 seconds (for a fresh reboot) then when i had to set everything up again i got all my computers on the router and im able to add more without running into that same problem once again, or for a simpler solution try disconnecting the wireless on the computers and replugging them in.... that works sometimes as well

New HP laptop will not connect to wireless secure network

Problem solved. I disabled the security on my network. I connected the new laptop to the unsecure network. I saved the settings on the laptop for the unsecure network. I rebooted the laptop. I re-enabled security on the router. I tried to connect to the network. I got an error on the laptop saying the network saved settings did not match. I modified the settings to a secure network on the laptop and saved the 128 bit key. Rebooted everything. All works fine now.

Router won't log into it's IP address online

It appears to me that you have everything plugged into the desktop PC. This is not the way that it should be done. Plug the cable modem into the wireless router via the Internet/WAN port. Plug your desktop PC into one of the ports numbered 1-4. Now connect to the router via the wireless connection for the router and you should be able to now connect to the internet with your laptop.
If it still does not work, power down everything in this order: Laptop, Desktop, Router, Cable Modem. Bring everthing up in the reverse order (Cable Modem, Router, Desktop, Laptop) waiting for each device to stablize before moving to the next.
Once you get everything working, turn on your wireless security (WPA not WEP) asap to keep your computers and surfing safe, and to keep intruders off your network.

Internect connecting

If the laptop was connecting wirelessly before and you didn't change the wireless security key on the router during your troubleshooting steps with the ISP then it should just reconnect. If it doesn't reconnect you should probably delete the wireless profile that's saved and try connecting again. When you delete the wireless profile you will have to enter the security key again. Make sure you have this information handy.

If you are uncertain what the wireless security key is use your desktop that is physically connected to the router to log into the router and reset the security key.

To log onto the router you need to know the routers IP Address. You can obtain that information through the following:

Type CMD
Click OK
Hit Enter
Look for the default gateway. The default gateway is the IP Address of the router. By default the IP is

Type whatever IP Address you discovered into the address bar of your web browser (Internet Explorer for most) and hit enter.

You will be prompted for a login. If you didn't change the default login information to the router it should be a blank username and the word: admin - as the password.

Navigate to the wireless settings and reset the security key.

From your laptop key in the new network key.

Hope this helps.
