Hi I have a Sears Craftsman Lt1000 garden tractor but I always have trouble starting it. I have a new battery but it only cranks over slow. I noticed that I get lots of corrosion by the battery terminals. Any ideas why I get corrosion? Is this the cause for the motor turning slow?

Craftsman LT1000 Wont crank over.

This is not always the case but on Briggs and Stratton it may be time to check the valves for adjusting. Take off the cover and check for a gap of .005 . If the exaust valve is loose it will not allow the engine to relieve combustion to start. In other words the engine stays under load of compression and can't turn. In my shop I see this all the time . If all electrical checks out try this next

Good battery & good starter but won't crank craftsman lt1000

check and see if the white wire on the starter solenoid has voltage when the key is in the start position. If so, the solenoid is bad. If not, back probe wire until you find voltage.

Removing tire from SEARS CRAFTSMAN LT1000 TRACTOR.

You need to remove the black rubber cap from the center of the wheel. Remove the "C" clip from the axle and the wheel should come off. The rear tires will have a square key in it. Do not loose the key.
