I have a John Deer riding mower. It ran for 10 min then shutoff. Now it will crank but not turn over. I drained gas and changed fuel filter. It cranks but will not turn over. What else should I check?

SOURCE: Stalls after 20 mins. of running fine. (Starving for gas)

From the rear of machine look at the top left of fuel tank for the fuel line.Where line comes out of tank see if it is pinched where it goes down between frame and tank, grab line and see if it moves freely. If that is OK loosen fuel cap after 10 minutes of run time to see if your vent hole in cap is working. These are 2 common problems for the L series mowers.

John deer j320 how do you drain fuel tank

Find the hose at the bottom of the tank and follow it to where it connects to the fuel filter. Have a bucket or gas can ready. Use pliers to loosen fuel line clamp from hose at fuel filter. Pull the fuel hose off of filter and drain fuel into bucket or gas can.

I have a L120. Up to a week ago I had no problems starting. It cranks fine but won"t turn over. Full service was done a year ago. Thanks Tom

Here are some of the questions that we need answers to: 1 What engine is in your tractor?
2. How long has it been since you last ran it?
3. Did you leave fuel in the tank and/or carburetor over winter?
4. Have you checked the obvious: fresh fuel in tank? gas shutoff valve open? any loose wires? is there spark at the plug? is the air filter clean? is the spark plug clean and properly gaped?
5. When it last ran, did it run okay?
6. When it cranks, does it seem to be at a normal crank speed, or does it just turn over s-l-o-w-l-y?
From what little you told, my guess would be that you left gasoline in the carburetor over winter, and your carburetor is gummed up.

You need to rebuild your carburetor and fuel pump.
Once done, change the oil again.

You might want to consider adding a fuel shutoff valve to your fuel line between the tank and filter. It is a great convenience if you do your own repair work.
