SOURCE: what is the minimum power supply for mobo:ibm usa P6 2001?
it depends on what peripherals and processor you're using. If you're using an under 100 watt processor, a 250 should work fine if you're only running one HD, one DVD-RW, and a very modest video card.
The fancier your processor is in it's revision line, the more wattage it draws, the more hard disks, cd-rws, pci cards etc you use.
You also may want to consider uptime requirements, and usage percentage. if you're running constant loads, power supplies don't like that, and the capacitors can get burnt up. Servers, video processing, etc will tend to require more than rated supplies just because 100% use of even close to rated wattage (and you will be very close) will tend to cause the maximum design heat to be produces, possibly blowing out capacitors etc in the power supply, causing downtime.
The brand name of the power supply matters too... if you're using a no-name chinese brand, i would be leery about their "rating", as it's probably peak for only a short time rating...
