Same problem. Using ANY vhs tape, whether recorder on this unit, or pre-recorded, I get audio, but video. Can anyone help? DVD side works fine, with the exception of getting the RC1 error from time to time.

On some of the DVD/VCR combo units, the VCR output is only available through the RF jack (chaVHS has audio but no video - 1.gif3), standard video1.gif (yellow) RCA jack and S-VIDEO jack. If you are using the Component jacks, the DVD side will work but the VCR will not. This is because the quality of video recorded on VHS tapes is so much lower than component quality video.
Thank you for rating this solution.

Pe will
This is actually an easy fix what you do is you take off lid the VCR cleaning everything with a Q-tip and a little alcohol all the gears accept the head with the head you use a cloth 4 eyeglass wear that's for anti reflective lenses and a little alcohol this will not scratch your head on the VCR
Then next you take.and use white grease and grease everything that has a track area being careful not to touch heads . You even do that tracks on the side of the VCR the ones that go in to the machine
Then towards the front of machine you will see two round gears lift those up slightly and check to see if white tape is in tracks if not push it slightly with a cuetip.
Then put machine back together as tape won't work with top of machine off
Plug in and hook.up IT should work now.
Good luck
Do this before you replace a ton if part

Look for tape residues on the head drum (metal cilinder inside). Clean it with extreme care or use a cleaning tape. If any tape get stuck inside recently the ground shaft might be bended and it causes grainy pictures.

Audio noise on some, but not all VHS tapes

Hi,

First thing i would say is go for the HI-FI audio would go in and out and pop etc. Adjusting the tracking would bring in the audio, but sometimes the video would get fuzzy. Get the picture right and the audio goes out. Switch to Linear (mono on some VCRs) and the audio should be fine.

Finally if this doesn't solve your problem then i would suggest you to give it to repair and they will fix it.

Goodluck..

Richard,

It could be your disc is scratched or DVD+R can't be read in the DVD player. Check for any scratches. Then pop in the disc in to your PC DVD, to see if it's readable.

If it won't PLAY VHS tapes it must have a serious mechanical problem (if it even loads) or its heads are glommed up, so it obviously won't record them either. When's the last time you ran a cleaning tape through it?

Solve the load or playback problem and it will probably record.

Cannot play VHS

Combo DVD/VCR players don't output the VHS with Component Video. Most of the time, it won't output over the S-Video either. The high end outputs are ONLY for DVD output. You must run a yellow wire, or use coax cable to get the video. Same goes for the optical digital sound out. It's only for DVD use.
